Gearknob question..??

This may sound stupid but just wanted some clarification.

On my Clio to put the car into reverse I have to pull up on the gearknob then put it into gear. If I bought an aftermarket gearknob, how would this still work, i.e how would I then put it into reverse?

The same way.
All you have underneath the gearknob is a spring.
You just have to make sure you are buying a "pull up reverse" gearknob.
I may be wrong, I am answering from experience with my old Corsa..

Nickson is correct, you just need a pull up reverse gear knob.
