What speed should i be expecting outta my Cup in all 5 gears?

Car just seems to be a little underpowered now, maybe ive got used to it?

The (well my) mk2 172 is about 35/40 out of 1st, 60 in 2nd, late 80s in 3rd and 110 ish in 4th. Didnt think the Cup is much different???

Remember that the ECU is clever and brings the limiter in earlier when cold - and its not just water temperature.....the engine has to be fully warmed up which can take up to half an hour depending on conditions.

York is too far away from me. I live 5 miles from Santa Pod though. Im not that good a driver to do drag racing.

Those speeds are what i get. It just feels like it should be more.

Late 80s in third? Hmmmmm mine dont

In fact at the moment whatever gear I put it in, it doesnt do anything LoL, but what can I do when the cars in bits LoL

But seriously, if you mod it, get is Superchipped and get the limiter raised, its much nicer when you can hold third to about 96-98 (No more 3rd->4th changes on the strip)

1st: not sure as I just take it to 7k.

2nd: 62 (change gear) have done 65

3rd: 85 - 88

4th: 110

5th:....

obviously the speeds quoted above 70MPH are an estimate as the speed limit in this country dictates.

According to the maths...

1st - 5.3mph/1000rpm = 38mph @ 7250rpm
2nd - 8.7mph/1000rpm = 63mph @ 7250rpm
3rd - 12.4mph/1000rpm = 90mph @ 7250rpm
4th - 15.8mph/1000rpm = 115mph @ 7250rpm
5th - 20.4mph/1000rpm = 148mph @ 7250rpm (in theory)


Those are for a mk2 & Cup, but a mk1 is gearer longer.
