Gearstick moves about on acceleration

  Fiesta Zetec S TDCi
Hiya,

I've only ever driven one Clio (mine lol) and I don't know if this is normal or not?

When I press down on the accelerator I can feel the gearstick move, and again when I take my foot off the pedal. If I pull at it I can get the stick out of gear but it doesn't jump out.

Dodgy mount somewhere? Or is this normal?

Thanks :)

On my 1.2 16v the gearstick jumps around the place like no tommorrow. Mounts were all intact, never jumped out of gear and never had any trouble selecting gear.
Assumed it was normal because Renault made the mounts of cheese or something, will have to seen if my new 1.6 16v does it.

Its normal, its caused by the linkage from the gear lever to the gearbox being a solid bar, so any movement from the gearbox (thrust forward and backwards) is translated back to the gearlever.

Dont worry about it.

they all do it. But the mounts been jellied causes it to be much worse as the whole box is moving about taking the shifter with it. Mines the same. Get it into renault if its under warrany and say its knocking an acccelaration and its fallen out of gear once or twice. That will get them to put new bushings on ;)

Basically renault are making our clio's out of various food then? I did think the panels were made of baked bean tins :D :clown:

Clio 3 and it moves back and forth about 1-2cm. I don't mind the movement but tug can felt through the car, even passengers notices it. Is this just how clios are or is there something I can fix? Feels really terrible if not driven very carefully like grandma.
