so it would loose the Group N map that is on it now?
Ive sold my RS Tuner now, didnt expect to have to use it again. Does paul's cost include the map then?
Dont really undrstand all this
Basically, the ECU gets a 'code' from the UCH, which comes to the ecu down a wire via Pin58.
After you flashed it with the RSTuner + Group N, the ECU was virginised. (Basically this means the immobiliser 'code' in the ECU's memory has been wiped). BUT, as soon as you turned the ignition back on after flashing, the ECU requested the 'code' again from the UCH, and stored it. This then means the car can start etc...
Problem is now, your ECU still has this 'code' in its memory. So, if you hooked up an emulator, the 'code' in the ECU and the 'code' on the emulator would not match, so the immobiliser would activate.
This is the reason you have to virginise the ECU (Using RSTuner, or RSTuning etc) so the 'code' is wiped. Then cut the wire going to pin 58 in the loom, so the UCH cannot communicate with the ECU, as the ECU will now be getting its 'code' from the emulator, thats what its there for.
So once its virginised, you fit the emulator, then turn the ingition on. The ECU will get its 'code' from the emulator and stores it. ECU thinks the UCH is there when it isnt, and lets the car start. Problem solved.
This will also apply if you ever have a remap, etc, as when the ingition is turned back on the ECU will just get its 'code' from the emulator again, so its not a problem
And thats how it works in a nutshell as far as I know!
Pauls virginising is just for the standard 172 map iirc.
