Getting the ’clunk’ fixed...

  VW Potato

im keen to get my clunk sorted out, so before I booked a session with my local reno dealer (not so local now - 20 miles away) i thought id call reno uk and ask if they have issued their dealers with any technical bulletins that relate to a clunk under acceleration on the Clio 172. I thought that if I went to my dealer armed with the bulletin details, it would mean a) reno uk recognise it as a fault and so the dealer would have to b) it would save time faffing about. After the customer service lady took all my details (which has happended every time i call reno uk - maybe they press delete rather than enter?) she said oh, i cant help with that. Were just customer services. You need technical support for that question. when I asked to be put through to technical support, she said I cant, because theyre not customer facing. Have you asked your local dealer if they have received a bulletin about the clunk? .So, i have to ask my dealer if reno uk has told them, because reno uk cant tell me if it has told them? (and, as it happened, the dealer has not been told by reno uk about the noise or the fix - surprise surprise. I suspect tomorrows visit will be a grim affair).

It wasnt the ladys fault, but this is an arse about tit way of doing things. Does anyone know whats the best way to approach my dealer tomorrow to get this fixed as painlessly as possible?

Renault dont directly tell the dealers, they post bulletins online probably and its the dealers responsibilty to check these

Yep its amazing the stuff they are not aware of.

Tis a shame that a customer can buy Dialogy disks from eBay and know more than the dealers themselves

When I went, the cumnugget behind the counter said that I was wrong, ti wasnt engine mounts etc etc etc. I took the technician for a spin, he heard the noise and said straight away that it was the offside top engine mount. The technical lads will know about them...

Cant you just do the standard fix that we all used for the knocking under deceleration problem?

I played with my mount and depending on which side you made the gap it would either knock under deceleration or acceleration. Just bung some rubber in the gap nice and tight problem solved?

Toypop, Im a great fan of easy and temporary fixes (hence why the interior panels that used to buzz or rattle now have blue tak behine them), but something like this Id rather get done properly.
