Spare night to do nothing, weather is terrible for car cleaning so going to rip the PS3 apart since it's out of warranty anyway and have a gander what's inside!
Might give it the olde motherboard in the oven treatment!
My original 60GB got the red/yellow light of death on Friday got a nice new slim to replace it but NEED my game saves from my old hard drive and was thinking of doing the heat gun trick but does it really work?? or can i get it fixed on the cheap as all i want is my saves lol
Couldn't you just ripped the old HDD out the broken PS3 and put it into your new slim, transfer the saves onto a USB pen drive, swap the HDD back over and transfer back, the HDD on the slims is located under the power and eject button iirc..
i wish Sony made life that easy i really do the hard drives are locked to each specific playstation and as such can't be used on any other. putting the hd in another playstation results in the new station wanting to format the drive straight away with no other option available even trying to connect it to a pc is a no go. the only way is to get the original station it came with back up and running long enough to get the saves etc.... thanks Sony
well i followed the guide on ebay by this gilksy fella http://www.youtube.com/user/gilksy1 and low and behold it works perfect now stayed on for a good 40mins while i got all my save data etc from it. gonna keep hold of it tho as its an original us 60gb with full backward compatibility and sacd support , also got a few american blu rays that can only be played on a ntsc player.
