going from open to closed filters

i used to run an open k&n style filter but decided to try going back to original airbox and pipercross panel filter. i'm really dissapointed it doesn't feel anywhere near as responsive and now it doesn't rev as freely so i think its back to the open filter. why does everyone think standard airbox and panel filter is so good?

sucks up less warm engine air etc, you also lose torque with an open cone filter. Its probably as you cant hear it, therfore tricking you into thinking its slower.
