a) if u have insurance, and MOT has lapsed... u can drive to and from the MOT testing station only and still be covered.
b) if you have no insurance, you cannot take it out. Then obviously you wont be covered by anything going to and from MOT station hence not having any cover = not legal.
..... in that case the only alternative wud be as Lee mentioned getting someone with motor trade insurance or trailor to get to the MOT testing station.
Just had a look at the Highway Code Website.... now using there information it backs up points made up there ^^.
MOT. Cars and motorcycles MUST normally pass an MOT test three years from the date of the first registration and every year after that. You MUST NOT drive a vehicle without an MOT certificate, when it should have one. Driving an unroadworthy vehicle may invalidate your insurance. Exceptionally, you may drive to a pre-arranged test appointment or to a garage for repairs required for the test.
Insurance. You MUST have a valid insurance certificate covering you for third party liability. Before driving any vehicle, make sure that it has this cover for your use or that your own insurance gives you adequate cover. YouMUST NOTdrive a vehicle without insurance.
Driving without an MOT is permitted but only to a pre arrange MOT inspection, You can also drive a car with no tax to an mot (as you need the MOT to get a tax disc)
Trade plates as mentioned above only cover TAX not MOT or INSURANCE
Either that or just get it there and sort the insurance over the phone if it passes, then you can drive it back. I sorted mine on the net and saved it, then just went in and paid once it had passed, only took a few minutes that way
