Well after goin out in my mates 182 on h&r's that was pro set up by Hill Power i have decided im going to get mine set up by him and to whatever height he thinks is best as Mike did with his.
I must admit it looks a million times better as it is now but handles no where near as good as Mikes, its all over the road compared to his.
So will be going from this:

No, that was Steve (Sm_wrc) his was setup by Mark Fish.

Nice to see someone who's finally realised that whacking a set of coilovers on without having them setup does not instantly give you a better handling car....just a low one.

It's not necessarily the height, the camber and toe in will pay a big part in how the car drives. Even the level of tread left on your tyres can make the car ride different, everyone knows how bad clios tramline. Mine is like a b1tch at the moment cos the tyres are going.

After getting the camber sorted by Mr. Fish it felt a lot different. Ive just had buckets and harnesses put in and removed the rear seats and she feels different again.

I wouldn't say height will change it much. But, it might NEED to be higher for the other adjustments.

The biggest problem with lowering that much is bumpsteer (self steering) which is caused by varying toe angles.

I don't know much about Hill Power, i know Stefan rates them highly, but a proper motorsport outfit (like Mark Fish) probably have all the equipment and experience to do a proper job of it.

i dont know about you, but while money is not growing on tree's I would go for the cheaper option( thats if it is cheaper) for a noticeable difference, than pay loads for just that little bit extra.

It only takes a bump on a kerb to knock it all out of alignment again.

i've been thinking the same, mine is super low.... fine around town and looks the danglies!!BUT, throw it down a bumpy back lane, and imo the standard setup is better. Up she goes this weekend i think!!!!

Problem with slaming is the lack of travel on the dampers, found this out with my H+R's. Mine is setup for a decent height, tyres are out of the arches by about 15mm, but I think Im going to have the rear raised a little more. Going to MrFish this saturday so see what I can do.

^ exactly, the pistons have less length to travel, and this results in the car being thrown about alot more.

i had a fred special with mine and then got the wheels alligned and camber sorted by a mate at a local garage who has its own race team

i think i would only go along the lines of a hillpower/mark fish setup if i was going to track it (which im not) as that imo would be worth the money

for road use im happy with what ive got

try it down a b road, giving it some beans.... I very nearly sold my car a couple of months ago, it all went back to standard. The O.E set up was an eye opener (sp).... alot less fuss, and imo covered more ground quicker. Food for thought.

I went for a compromise between handling and sensible height for the use I give the car (often over uneven/unsurfaced tracks while MTBing) and ended up with this:

Heights (measured from ground to top of wheelarch, through centre of wheel):
Front: 600mm
Rear: 605mm
and had camber and toe-in set up accordingly. Handling is brilliant, only problem is slight rubbing occasionally, and a fooking rattle from the rear of the car - think it's the springs where they mount onto the platforms (metal-to-metal). IS that a normal noise?

shouldn't have any rattling, you should have a rubber 'cushion' on the car side of where the spring mounts. If your running coilovers, the bottom of the springs just sit on the adjusters

Yep, I've got the rubbers between the car and spring at the top. The rattle is - I think - coming from where the bottom of the spring sits on the adjusting platform. Hard to identify exactly where it's coming from - anyone with any other suggestions? Definately from the coilovers at the rear anyway, rattle only appeared since fitting about 4 weeks ago.

Nope, reasonably high but as said in this thread low ain't always the best!

Sounds like the exhaust knocking/ rattling on the rear axle, as when lowered it gets closer to it...

Nah, standard exhaust and it's not that sort of noise. Thanks for the idea though. It's definately from the platform/spring interface judging by the "tone" of the rattle, if you know what I mean!
