Good 197 Cup Review

  Mk1 Eunos Roadster
Am I the only person here that thinks the 197 isn't actually that loud on the motorway? It's definitely quieter than my 182, and the humming of the engine stayed fairly well muffled on the car I drove. I thought it was pretty good... :S

I think on the early ones it was revving a little high at a motorway cruise due to the gear ratios...

They have much better build quality than Clio's of old and in turn sound insulation. I don't think in terms of noise it would be intrusive, more irritating. If my revcounter is showing 4.5k at a motorway cruise I think to myself s**t this is going to be guzzling the juice I should back off abit. However if in a (early) 197 4.5k is 80mph as per the previous models a quick glance at your revcounter would suggest your going abit quick, however in actual fact your just going the same speed as everyone else, pulling 4.6k revs would irritate me so yes it would be intrusive.

There are actually loads of very good 197 Cup reviews.
Don't let a waste of a read from Clarkson put you off.
Top Gear magazine even gave it 17 out of 20.

The car is awesome and you won't be dissappointed.
I have come from a number of turbo charged cars (Megane 225/Astra VXR/Focus ST (with 270 bhp)) and before those a Clio V6 and it is immediately a far better drive than all of those.
The lack of power is more than made up for by the immense handling.

Not driven those that you mentioned craig, but the 197 is a cracking car. The only thing that ruins it for me is the fuel economy. If it did what the 1*2s do it'd be superb.
