Good deal or not?

  BG182FF
A garage local to me has got a 172 cup, they've had it there for the last 12 months that I know of..the details;

-53 plate
-2 owners from new
-48k (genuine)

General condition is pretty good that I could see, couple of marks on the front bumper and 1 mark on the back.. asking £3000. I asked but they said for £3000 they couldnt offer a warranty, but would put 12 months MOT on it.

Good deal you think? Im really after a black 172, but the low mileage and the fact the garage is just round the corner is warming to me a bit. Unsure of whether it had FSH - I forgot to ask..

thanks

Oh and if its a trader, they must offer a 3 month warranty at least. Whether you pay £10 or £3000.

I took it for a drive and everything seemed sound. no untoward noises coming from the engine bay ect..I was coming round to the idea that it was a good deal till posting on here. Cheers all!

Taken from this website... http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governm...ights/Buyingacar-yourconsumerrights/DG_183047

Some car traders try to use disclaimers such as 'sold as seen', 'trade sale only' or 'no refund' to restrict your rights. This is against the law and you can report any trader that does this to Consumer Direct, the government funded consumer advice service.

So to sumarise; What they are saying ''No warranty given at £3000'' is illegal.

They've had the car over a year so something's not right. Why has nobody bought it?

A car sat for a year will need a fair amount of work. Things rust/seize/deteriorate very easily when stood about.

Well over priced, i just paid £2700 for an 04 182 full fat with full service history and had belts done around 8k ago, also got 6 months tax as part of the deal and 12 month warranty.
My advice steet clear and shop around, i travelled 50 mile for mine, and it was deffo worth it

I think the trader will have to repair faults that occur withing 6 months, or prove that they were not present at the time of sale (i.e. the burden of proof is on them not you), have a look at the Citizen's Advice Bureau site which says:
"If you take the vehicle back within six months of buying it, the dealer should accept that there was a problem when the vehicle was sold and offer to repair or replace it. If the dealer doesn't accept that there was a problem when the vehicle was sold, they will have to prove this."

However, I'd go with Daniel on this. I had a '97 1.2 Clio a number of years ago which I drove every day, then had to leave it on the drive for a few months (broken leg). A few weeks after I started driving it again the cam belt went. Cars don't like being sat unused.

thats true. bought a vectra sri 140 that had been stood for over 12 months, I needed a cheap car at the time so bought it. flew through mot, then gradually a few dash lights would come on, then the head gasket went. cost a fortune in the end.

FOGGY, Im waiting for a car like that to come up so i can snap it up! :)

Full 12 month MOT, 12 months tax. Belts done and receipts to prove it wasnt done by a cowboy, wheels not scuffed and kurbed and I don't think 3k is too far off.

Tha fact it's not sold and just sat there for 12 months would worry me though.
