good graphics card?

looking to buy myself a new graphics card for my PC this weekend, probably a 256MB one, dont really want to spend more than £150

currently got a 32MB one (dont laugh) and its the only part of my computer thats actually an original part!

any recommendations? would need to be AGP too (i think!)

Your AGP bus is going to be a limiting factor there, m8. You can get some of the X800 (and X850 iirc?) cards in AGP form, but they will be thin on the ground. A good all-rounder that will be cheap these days is the older ATi 9800 Pro. It's not cutting edge by a long shot, and despite only having 128MB (there is a 256MB version too but less common) it can run most things well. I play Battlefield 2 on mine and it works fine. I have to switch some of the extreme eye-candy off, or reduce it to Low, but the end result is decent enough.

Alternatively, if your motherboard is PCI-e equipped, you could always opt for the new nVidia 7950X2 card. Comes with 1GB onboard and will set you back circa £400. ;)

cheers for the advice guys, i dont think ive got PCI-e so thats my downfall really

im not after a top end one, just something thats going to be in line with the rest of my PC, not some 32MB, 6 year old card!

cheers

yeah, the 6800GS is actually the one i will prbably go for anyway, or possibly the X800/X850 as Darren said earlier. ill let you know the outcome :)

in the end i went for a nvidia 6600, which for my spec computer is fine, my last card was probably made somewhere around 1950, so its a big improvement.

had a look in dixons / currys and it was £125.....looked in another shop, and it was £81.50! Bargain

cheers for everyones help though.
