Good practices before mapping.

I have the Twingo rally car booked to go in for mapping at efi in a few months time. The car basically has cat cams ktec manifold and exhaust. I have never had a car mapped as all my previous rally cars have had standard engines.
I was going to give it a oil service, plugs were done less than a thousand miles ago. Coils have never been replaced or injectors, would it be a good idea to get some and take as spares if needed?
It is currently just running a pipercross filter in the standard airbox, is it worth getting a ph1 172 airbox or decent indication kit as it will need to breath a bit more than standard.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If it’s not had a service in a while I’d do one before hand. That’s about it.

Didn’t do anything to my Cupra as it had a decent service 2k before it’s map.

Change the oil, give it death and make sure you have absolutely no misfire issues as they can be annoying to find and eat into dyno time.

Triple check the coolant system, I've had quite a few cars blow a coolant hose off on the dyno and its always very annoying. Run with the hardest cheapest tyres you have, sticky tyres overheat quickly on rollers. Check gearbox oil if you can be bothered.

If the car is fairly standard and has been reliable you will be fine on the dyno. Heavily boosted cars, or cars with freshly build engines are more of an issue.

Before i mapped the 335i, i gave it a full service (oil/filters) and changed the spark plugs and coils - both being weakpoints when mapped.

If you have a spare injector take them in case something goes wrong i guess?

Where you going for mapping?

Get as many mods done as you can! Fill up with good fuel, oil change, plugs, filters etc.

Check that pesky twingo 4th coil pack!

EFI, first line, if you can't see that you stand no chance of finding that 4th coil pack

I think the ph1 airbox is more for noise than performance, looking back at older posts. Wouldn't say it's imperative for mapping and can be fitted later if you wanted.

Service it and job's a goodun!

Be interested to see what you get, sounds like a good set of upgrades already. 145/150 ish?

Nah, the saloon, put MHD Stage 1+ on it, went rather well
Left the touring standard in case i put warranty on it/in order to maximise resale etc.

Service with plugs but I'd do the coil pack(s) personally.

Every motor I've had had killed a coil not long after being mapped. You may aswel start off with a strong spark.

If it aint broke.... maybe take one spare coil pack with you, assume they are reasonably quick to swap? No harm in having a spare injector too. However unlikely something is to fail it will be cheaper for you to have spares than it will be to waste the session and have to go back.

I've mapped quite a lot of cars on various rollers and I can't remember ever having a problem with a normally aspirated car, if they run well to begin with all will be well.

It's fitted with a more free flowing set up than the ktec 163 kit so I am hoping for 150+. Its hopefully a lot lighter than standard so aiming for 200bhp per tonne would be nice.

Give it a check over and take something that may be a common issue/fault but if its driving fine anyway mapping shouldn't "make" anything fail

Im such an idiot, was bad timing as I had also made an offer on a 135i which later fell through anyway. If I had seen yours first I would have paid 13.5k all day long.
