Good video cameras?

Old mans looking for a good all round video camera, need it fairly sharpish so will need to be a store collection sort of thing tomorrow, Had a quick flick through the argos cat. and the sony sr58 80gb HDD looks pretty good but it is £300 notes

Any one got any they approve of? needs to be fairly straight forward to use he's not one with tech so Sony takes my eye
