Google search results

Had my website up and running for about 5 months now. Finally got it indexed by google in February and after getting some external links etc we were 2nd on the results page for the search term 'Plan your space', my domain - http://www.planyourspace.com

I've also had adwords running for about the same period of time. However, the money I've made from a direct result of adwords cancels out the profit so its just like free advertising in a way. Anyway, I stopped adwords last week to see if affects the web order rate. I ran a search this morning on google for 'Plan your space' and we are not even in the first 10 pages of results now !?!?!? (there is a link in 2nd place but this is an external site linking to us).

Why would adwords have any direct impact on your web position for certain search terms ?!

Looks like google are being t*ssers - would I be right ?

I have just taken a quick look through your code and forgive me if I have looked straight passed them but I cannot see any keywords with META Tag that google and other search engines will use to pickup your site?

If this is the case I would suspect Google gives you a higher rank when using ad-words as obviously they are working on a commission basis and I would have thought you have passed them a list of keywords etc?

I would start by adding some META Tag Keywords and then have your site resubmitted to search engines.

I took the META tags out mate. Read various articles and people reckon they are not used much anyone in the grand scheme of things.

Edit: yep did all the site myself, im a programmer though and not a designer as you might be able to tell

Your top for UK, but most people search 'the web' as its easier!

You will find that the way google works is by finding websites, boosting them up for a while, then dropping them down again. They will slowly move back up over weeks/months, but the 2 key things you can do are firstly do not add or change any content on the website and to get as many inbound links as possible to your site.

I have had the same thing happen to me a few times.

When you link to your website, make sure the link is called your main keyword/phrase and points yo your website. i.e plan your space

That is if you wish for that to be your main keyword. Are many people going to be searching for that term?

I am pretty confident your site will be back up to where it was or even better over the coming months.

Didnt even check that! Why would the site be 1st on a UK search and nowhere on a general search ??? Something really isnt right.

just another note matey,

I see you are using alt attributes but not populating them.

These attributes should be filled with alternative text to the images, robots cannot read images. Also, if there are any deadlinks and images missing, this alt text will be displayed.
