around 600 plus fitting, will improve handling, reduce bodyroll and improve general 'chuckability' :D

for the amount of money thats needed to get very little extra power out of the clio engine you are best off getting a decent brake and suspension set up then learning how to drive it properly :D

hillpower isnt too far from you in derby, speak to nick hill, he's the man :D

mark fish is awesome but based in the south

do a search for h&r coilover on here and you will get loads of threads about them :)

Just had a look on K - Tec they are selling some at £775 inc vat. I get mixed veiws here. So with people saying buy Cams, Induction, ECU re map, what is actually best?

what is actually best?

Thats a matter of opinion. personally I think getting better handling and better brakes is the bestthing to do without spending mega money because then you can brake later and corner faster meaning better laptimes. Cams etc will give you better straight line speed but you wont be able to carry that speed through the corners without better handling.

I will not be doing any track days... so for that reason would it be worth investing in the supension?

I dont know why anyone would spend money the engine without sorting the chassis first. Mint brakes, suspension, poly bushes. You will go a lot quicker with a mint chassis.

H&R's will (in the real world) cost you £1K fitted and setup properly

go see hillpower, he's about 10min from you

Yeah, if he's planning on spanking it to death on the UK road network but in the real world thats just not possible.

He wants more power but the next big step up is into cams which will top his grand by another half

Id go decat, maxogen, inlet and remap

If it was me, i'd get Coilovers and some proper driving tuition.

Infact, i've just bought H&R's and the next step is driving tuition... :)

Whats the point in having driving tuition? Yes it might make him more driver aware but in the real world with other cars about, busy roads etc its not going to be of any great benafit vs a dose of extra bhp !

Panel filter £30-45
Decat - £60-80
Eibach Sportlines/prolines - £110-140 (depends on waht you want really)
Braided lines + Fluid £40-60
Brembo discs £110-130
Half decent pads £60-110 (dependsing on what you want)
Inlet manifold (would check the casting first myself to see if i felt it needed work) unsure on price though sorry
Remap (i would get an RStuner personally) about £150

Cba to work out what that comes to but as you have an exhaust thats the ideal setup in my opinion

All prices are rouch estimates - i would spend the rest on maintance oil change etc..

Lol! Biggest load of rubbish ive read on this forum for a long time.

How much faster in the real world do you think a grands worth of mods will make you? Wouldnt pull away from a standard car...

Most important things are brakes and driving ability. After that its suspension, a set of h&r's will transform the car.

Are you kidding me??

On my last track day, a race day instructor in some punters standard clio 1.8 16v kept up with me in my stripped 172.

Driving tuitions not worth it??

Whats the point in having all thae extra power if you don't know how to use it??

Agree that uprated brakes arnt to be sniffed at but when do you have the oppotunitly to actually be in a position to outbrake anyone ??

what would you do to a 172 for 1k that would make it quicker than a standard car with a better driver?

andyman, Its got nothing to do with being on a track.

A better driver will make a car quicker than £1000 worth of clio engine mods. What will that get you, relistically? About 15/20hp? now in reality, whats he going to enjoy more? Being able to drive his properly set up car to its full potential? or will he just enjoy bragging that his clio has had £1000 spent on the engine but an average joe in his std 172 can keep up with him around town....

thank you.

edde is the perfect example of what a difference a good driver can make :D

i love watching his vids of him steaming past more powerful cars in his trusty dci

To get the best or to make the difference vs modded out of this driver tuition he would have to be somewhere near the limit or certainly over the speed limits.

Anyone can point and squirt up to a point. Its behond that that sorts the men from the boys, the inexperience vs the experienced.

The point im trying to make is its pretty rare to be in a position to out handle, outbrake, outwit etc someone on the UK road system, A roads, B roads etc etc aka be faster

Fine if your on a track, but everyday driving half the time he'd never be in a position to take full advantage out of it vs having extra bhp

Extra grand worth of mods on what he already has would pull on a OE 172. By how much? How longs a piece of string ...
