Painful! but worth it, 2200 this year fully comp, quoted 1400 for 19 and 2yrs so itll be fine next year :)

Ouch haha. I was quoted around that when I was 18, but when I turned 19 and bought my 197 the quotes had changed due to all insurance premiums going up and it cost me £1600 with 2 yrs ncb. Now i'm 21 it's under a grand, so it does get better :)

Looks like a tidy car though mate, enjoy it, just go careful with all that extra power ;)

£2200 is not too bad really for your age, I bet your 1.2 wasn't massively cheaper. , Nice car mate :)

First year was 2400 for the 1.2 lol thats y im pretty happy, it was only £850 tbf on the 1.2 policy id just started so it had gone down a load

Lol at people saying £2200 insurance is acceptable on a £4000 car.

So going out and buying an £8000 car and spending £4400 on insurance would be ok??

Over 50% of the cars value on insurance is just insanity.

No its not.

It is if you want to drive a 2.0. But more fool them for doing it. I pay less than that to insure 6 people and £100k's worth of cars.

Buy a cheap to insure car. Why waste money on insuring a 2.0?? Its just mental.

Would you have done anything different if you were in his position at 18?

Good on you mate :) hope you enjoy it :D

You could say that about anything really. Why drink/smoke its a waste of money, why buy nice clothes, why eat nice food when cheaper stuff will still keep you alive etc.

Its a luxury and he's willing to pay for it. That's fair enough to me.

When I started driving, which is the last time I insured my car, I paid £1800 to insure a car which cost £1500.

The OP is the same age as I was then, and is only paying £400 more for twice the car. That's good value for this age group.

I'm pretty sure that buying a 182 won't have an effect on his childrens upbringing... I could be wrong though??

I did! I was offered a brand new car from my nan, all I had to do was pay for insurance. I flatly refused! Its a pet hate of mine, I detest insurance companies and I will not pay them a single penny more than is absolutely needed.

He's got his whole life to enjoy cars, to waste money at 18 is just not the way I'd do things. IMO of course. If i'm still allowed to have one of those??

I never see the problem when people pay high insurance, its part of life and part of being a petrol head/ being in the car game.

Would you rather look bak in 20 years time and say, "oh well when i was 18 my insurance was less than £1000 on my 1.2 litre clio" or would you rather say "when i was 18 i owned a 2litre renault sport clio and paid £2.2k insurance but was well worth it".

The majority of people on a car forum are "into cars" and therfore going to pay high insurance. Its part of life and growing up owning cars.

I have mates who arnt really into cars and at 25 still drive 1.2'a etc, but they also lash at least £80 away every weekend on alcohol...

Wow, you could of saved £1kish by having a 1.2. I know what id rather do and be able to look back on

Chances are he's going to pull a fit bird now, Full on balla with a 182 at 18, the clunge will be weak at the knees.

Fair dos, he may as well get the silly cars out of his system before he has to worry about mortgages and bills etc lol

Ive had a right carry on with insurance t***s the past couple of weeks... But I'll not get into a rant and spam the tread :p

Each to their own I guess.

In the morning I won't be surprised if the buy a 1*2 at less than 25 and you will crash and die in a ball of fire before you get to the end of your road brigade will be onto this thread.

Back on topic though: OP do you have any plans for it then i.e. 3/4 front plate, silvervisions and removing the sidelights (yes then it will be a replica of mine from the front) it really if the ideal front end setup for a ph2 1*2 though.

Nice car for an 18 year old but please be careful mate,
if 182s had been around when I was 18 i'd have killed myself within a month,
at 18 I was getting hammered down the pub and throwing myself down flights of stairs on a skateboard.

Enjoy it, but just take it easy until you get use to it. :)

Since when does the house you live in affect your child's upbringing? Surely that's down to family, not a house?!

Tbf, at 17 i was paying £1700 tpft on a mk1 1.4 RT. So £2200 doesn't sound a bad price at your age!!

at 18 I had a 1.0 Austin Metro that was faster than an XR3i and could go round corners quicker. And could stop quicker. All built by myself and my Dad. I paid about £600 a year insurance, my mates with Xr3i's were paying £1200! (This was a long time ago btw!)

So i'm not a petrol head because I don't want to waste my money giving it to a massive insurance company that make billions every year?? Just lol.

Actually it makes more sense to do the silly car thing later, once he has got the 'I need to race everything' phase out of his system.

18, with a quickish car. Throw a wet country lane into the equation and....you can see where this is going.

I may be completely mistaken of course. But I doubt it.

  182
Im not saying that mate. Simple point im making is, if your into cars then paying an extra £1000 really isnt a lot for the joy it will give you.

  Civic Type R
I think its best starting with slower car's purely so you have something to look forward to.. Keeps it fun upgrading to something faster..

Over exuberant yoofs will crash anything if the testosterone and laddish company is present and correct. Jumping into a hot hatch so soon is asking for trouble.

New toy.
Fill with mates
Need to prove how quick new toy is to mates.
Etc etc

Who are you fallw02.

I like you, never seen you here before. Are you recently unemployed and now able to spend more time on here??

I can honestly say if I got one of these earlier I would've most likely binned it... It's taken a written off dci (the 'd' stood for drift on that car ;)) and a bumped 1.4 to scare me into respecting cars lol.

No unfortunately I am not recently unemployed, but have been spending more time on here lately, and I don't even Own a Renault anymore!!

Believe it or not I am not really called fallw02 , its Wayne.

Really need to change that.
