Got me a 172!

  Clio sport 172
Hi there, recently bought myself an 03 plate 172, 58k and excellent condition bodywork wise. Just seen this site and thought I'd sign up!! Let me know what you advise on mods I could do, especially engine wise as its pretty standard at the mo. Also, the steering seems to squeak on full lock or when the wheels aren't moving. Anyone know what that could be??! Wasn't doing it when I bought it.........

So, if it is the top mounts, what's the best ones to get and is it an easy job to change them?

you could go for standard top mounts or opt for solid mounts: ktec, ast, pure motorsport and mark fish just off the top of my head make recommended top mounts.

I have mark fish ones. ££££ but awesome.

I changed the mounts myself with the help of a friend. Sign up as a member and there are guides to do all sorts and save some pennies :)

RE: Engine mods.

Unless you start doing camshafts & throttle bodies or turbo/supercharging, you'll get minimal difference.

best spending the money on keeping the standard kit in top condition (starting with all the belts!).

Ok, so belts it is. Gotta get this sweeping sorted first, hopefully it's something really simple but I think it's affecting the reliability of the steering. Any thoughts or advice on updated brakes? Which ones do you use? Or
Is it not worth it?

That should read squeeking!!

As said, it will be the top mounts.
Your No1 priority is to figure out when the belts were last done and if it was over 5 years ago, don't use the car until they are done.
