Apparantly having a coloured light around the edge of the telly is supposed to reduce eye strain when watching the telly for a prolonged period. Something to do with the eye finding it easier to focus with the light rather than the usual blackness either side.

ambi light only has one real use and the colour its most use on has no colour so to speak :)

Doesn't the mark 2 actually vary the light depending on what's at the edge of the screen (or did I dream that one...) ie, it isn't a "solid" colour like the mark 1 ambi light, but each edge is different.

no it changes but ambient lighting is only of real use to make blacks look darker in dark rooms

when you look at the tv the screen in teh dar it will seem grey due to the back light shining through the screen

during the day though the blacks seem blacker nothing has changed except the ammount of light

in a dark room all round the tv is true black so it makes the tv's blacks seem grey so if you shine light around the edges of the tv the blacks get darker its one of teh resons you shouldnt watch tv id completely dark rooms
