Gran Turismo 6

I quite enjoy the game tbh, but the time it takes to get from finishing a race, skipping the bullshit, back to menu back to next race is f**king irritating.

Finish a race, why bring up a replay? Have an option for it.

I want to love it but i cant. :(

I've said this for a long time. There is a few things that majorly let this franchise down.
1. The AI is dogs turd.
2. The starting from the rear of the rolling grid is annoying to hell
3. The biggest offender is the sound of the cars!

They spend time getting the moon and the stars in the correct postions but cannot be asked to sort out the sound.
Cars sound generic and unrealistic. The AI is too easy and just seems to follow each other around.

please please please Polyphony sort this out for GT7!

The kart racing on championship are annoying as s**t making it through 4 : 5 races to clip a corner and completely screw you over.

Nothing to do with you, or the way you recorded it ;) I'm just surprised that they'd let those kinds of things happen in a game these days.

So yeah. Turns out this is actually fun to play. A rather large turnaround from the previous piece of s**t.

The physics are vastly improved. There's now real subtlety to the handling. You get a sense of grip level, suspension travel, inertia and shifting balance. I would say it's very much a match for Forza 3 (the last Forza I played). Although of course later sequels of that game may be better still. GT6 actually feels like a simulator now, and not just a game in which you guide a camera around a pretty race track. Graphically it's also nicer.

The car sounds are pretty weak initially, but once you progress into the more exotic machines, it improves a great deal. The race cars sound really good. Bumps and crashes are ridiculous though. Tyre sequel is also better than before, but can still be a little irritating.

The acid test for me, is the one that GT5 failed miserably: does it make you keep saying "just one more race"? Yes it does, and before you know it three hours have passed and you forgot you needed a piss. Overall I'm very impressed. I'll be getting a lot of mileage out of this game. Pun intended of course.

In isolation: 9/10
As an improvement over its forbear: 12/10

///Munson Did you use a pad or wheel? I find GT virtually impossible to enjoy playing it with a pad, a wheel improves the game ten fold imo.

I'm using a pad but I am planning to get my wheel setup soon. For me it's great with the pad, so should be even better with a wheel.

Is this on PS3/4?

PS3.

I've quite enjoyed my last few goes on it. Done quite a few races in an old yellow Camaro after watching too much Roadkill on YouTube.

Found out that upgrading to the fully customisable transmission automatically makes my H pattern Shifter useless though which made me think something was broken. :what:

I can't get into this game at all and i've tried a few times now. I've played them all, I just can't be bothered with this one. The engine noises really wind me up.

I've been playing Real Racing 3 on the iPad a while now and I keep going back to it. It's what GT6 should be, it's just so much better.

Anyone got any idea if it's going to turn up on PS4? Or are we having to wait until 2020 for GT7?

THIS 100%!, I remember enjoying GT4 on a pad and then I got a Wheel/pedal/seat setup when GT5 came out and honestly haven't looked back since.. The only time I use a pad now is when I want to take a few quick photos without actually playing the game and even then I find it terrible tbh and I am a massive GT fan.... Massive handicap compared to using a full wheel pedal setup with ffb.

You will absolutely love it on a wheel, makes the game so much more involving and enjoyable. What wheel are you getting ? Logitech, Fanatec or Thrustmaster?

Strange, the only time the H pattern shifter doesn't work is when using cars that have 7 speeds or are only available in automatic ( R35 GT-R is like this ), in an old Camaro you should be fine:S

GT7 is next and will be on PS4 , apparently expected in 2015 next year which would seem about right as they have also said only a years worth of updates for this game GT6. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they are half way through it already but noting official been released yet

As for this game im still really enjoying it and pretty much play it daily ( I rarely play the PS4 due to spending quite a bit of time on this:eek: ) it is at it's best when played online with a room full of decent players!

I wish I hadn't given my PS3 away so soon, at the moment all I've got is War Thunder and Battlefield.

Need all the standard-issue PS* titles: Streetfighter, Soul Caliber, Tekken, GT, Fallout/Elder Scrolls

Until they start turning up, it's just a pretty iPlayer box. PS3, at this time, is a superior product, esp. with its media streaming powers...and 4OD

Pretty sure it does it for any car when you do fully customisable transmission, although not tried any others yet personally - http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/am-i-the-only-one.293741/

Have just ended up mounting both the H pattern and Sequential to my seat at the same time instead of swapping them over like I was before. Much easier to swap the plug than unbolting a load of stuff.

Edit: Reading further down the page on that thread it only affects standard cars.

Yeah I still have a lot of love for the PS3 and apart from graphics it easily has another year or so life left in it before it needed to be upgraded to PS4 imo,...I still have games on preorder for it as well as games like the last of us still to play etc . Dark souls II is probably the game I am looking forward to the most this year and is released on PS3, I put over 600hours! in to the 1st one and will likely be doing the same with the 2nd as it is looking stunning:eek: Also play Final Fantasy 14 a lot which is another reason the PS4 isn't getting much of a look in at the sec.... I have 5 or so games PS4 on preorder but all released later in the year.

Its seems you are correct, on standard cars using the fully customisable transmission no longer lets you use clutch or 6speed shifter but sequential and paddles work as they should yet premium cars work fine:S I normally stay well away from the racing gearbox as it makes an awful whine which makes the cars sound terrible, use either one of the boxes on top of it or just keep standard and they sound a lot better and clutch / shifter works as it should on standard cars:)

New update out today with M4 interior and Toyota FT-1 Concept http://www.gtplanet.net/gran-turism...cept-bmw-m4-interior-and-new-seasonal-events/

Getting the hang of the photoshoot mode!

I can only echo the above to how good this game can look

The kart racing on championship are annoying as s**t making it through 4 : 5 races to clip a corner and completely screw you over.

I race karts in real life, and when you understand how fragile you have to be on the steering and every tiny input has a large outcome you do understand karts a lot more in the game.

I found the karts in gt5 were a little off? These are a little better but still not perfect.

You can smash/launch the kerbs in real life without spinning which you can't do all the time in the game which is a bad point. When you master the kart (in game) you can do anything you want with them and put them where you want without having any problems.

I used to spend about 3 hours every night with my mates from real life karting but now my ps3's dead..

:(

I've been karting a few times myself, it could be that playing with a pad completely removes the feel and with the nature of karts, it's a lethal combo - But the kerbs are lethal in GT6, the slightest clip can end you !

People can say all they want about this game...but theres not many better feelings in a racing game than driving on the nurburgring in the afternoon sun in a decent car in GT6 imo...they have the course spot on now and it looks stunning with the improved lighting...god only knows what GT7 on PS4 will look like!

Totally agree, for all its faults ( which aren't many now imo ) it certainly has its moments of brilliance and agree that is one of them , I love how the lighting makes a big difference to the feel of the race and the tracks look stunning with the sun setting under the clouds or just rising in the morning.. then when its raining very gray and damp looking. Will be unreal on PS4

They look really flat in comparison to Forza and other GT photos.

The lighting makes a big difference to how the pictures come out, I suppose in Forza that is handled by always being sunny;)

Might just be me, im not sure on how to use the camera settings properly yet so those pics are just point & shoot haha

Very good guide over on GTP, have a read up and will help you get the best out of the ingame camera:D

Few pics :)

Argos are doing this for £24.99 at the moment, so I have just reserved a copy before they sell out.

Is it any good and how does it compare to GT5? Handling improved?

  Audi TT 225 Quattro
Amazon have been selling it for £20 for some time now....

It is a big improvement over GT5.... The handling is a lot better especially if you are using a wheel and pedal setup.

Support for GT5 is stopping in the next few months and they will be concentrating more on this adding new content etc ( also probably to help get GT7 finished as PD is a pretty small company ) .

Few months back a Gran Turismo Movie was announced , well its been released and is more a documentary than movie but an interesting watch if you like GT games:)

Few more random pics I took ( loads on my flickr acc )

I respectfully disagree, Polyphony Digital aren't really a small team. I understand they currently have some 175+ people working on content and the next version (with a large proportion of that number being the core development and art teams). Fingers crossed GT7 will be a bit special. :)

I was going by their Corporate Profile which states 110 employees compared to something like square-enix which has some 3782 employees... but either way I for one hope they do well with GT7, they pushed the ps3 hard so hopefully they can do it again with an even better bit of hardware:)

Thanks, just ordered from Amazon, for £20 it's too cheap to ignore

Will have to dig my Logitech wheel & pedals out now, they've not been touched since I stopped playing GT5, which was a long time ago
