Graphics Card?

Hi Guys,

Over the last few months my screen has been flashing pink sometimes. It does it for about 10 seconds then goes for a day or so.

I replaced the screen but it's still doing it, so presumably the graphics card is knackered?

I guess my first question would be to find out how can i find the model of graphics card, and then where can i get a replacement? Would i need a pro to fit it for me?

Just been through Control Panel and found 'Display adaptors' under Hardware.

Would Intel(R) 82845G/GL Graphics Controller be the bad boy i need to replace?

I got the same problem, i cant play any games nemore i need to buy a new one .. but i dont wanna buy a expensive one i just want one that can play games even on the lowest detail im currently using a radeon 9200 so if anyone has one for sale etc please let me know!

and i dont know if that was your graphics card but i dont exactly remember where to check what one u have, however i check mine by using the ATI controller thing, it tells u what graphics card u have and u also can do this another way .. ur heading in the right direction

You can't replace one of those bad boys! Open her up and tell us whether you've got a brown/green slot or a black/blue slot for graphics (or none of the above) and I'll tell you what you want to get!

Intel(R) 82845G/GL is an onboard graphics chipset as opposed to a true graphics card. In that sense there's nothing to replace.

You mobo should have an AGP/PCI-E slot as well to allow you add a "proper" graphics card if you wish. Probably a good start to find out exactly what your mobo is so try http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-138.zip

Thanks for the file, i have opened it and can't find a 'mobo,' is it short for something? Mother board..?

Mobo/MB = Motherboard (or Mainboard in the case of CPUZ)

I think it's the 3rd tab along from memory.

I'll go out on a limb and say if it's got any graphics interface other than the old PCI bus it'll be AGP - AFAIK you need a 9xx chipset to get PCI-E. As you'd imagine, 82845G is the Intel 845 Chipset with onboard graphics, capable of not alot.

Next step is to have a look inside and see if it actually does have one, and whether it's a half height or full height job. Half height is about 3 inches tall, full height about 5 Inches. From there I'll tell you what you can get with whatever your budget is!
