Greetings from a future Trophy owner

G'day everyone. I'm currently driving a scabby mk3 16v Golf and for the past few months been contemplating spunking £7-10K on something nice.
For the past few years I've been hearing about how great the Trophy is so now the time has come to get one .

I'm hoping to get something with 30k or less for £8k. There's one or two that look good on autotrader but I don't want to make any enquiries until the cash is in my account. I should have it within the next week.
My main problem is that I live in N. Ireland and all the cars on autotrader are located on the mainland. This means that I'm going to have to meet the seller at the nearest airport to view the car. If it turns out that somethings not right then its going to cost me possibly £180 to walk away and catch the next flight home, plus whatever it costs to get there in the first place.

Thats why I'm here. I want to know if there are any common faults to be looking out for. Have there been any recalls I should know about? What about major service intervals?

When I do get my Trophy I'll probably do a few mods to it. Braided brake lines, air filter and maybe a chip and exhaust. Is there anything else worth considering? Can anyone recommend the best filter and exhaust to go for?

Nice Trophy for you NOT MINE its now reduced to £7750, welcome to cliosport mate, cars are pretty bomb proof tbh. I've had two sports and still loving them after 75,000 miles and 5.5yrs of ownership.

Hey mate - check www.Cliotrophy.co.uk - plenty of info there. The main thing you wanna check for especially is leaky dampers. Everything else should be pretty routine.

hi mate and welcome like the post above check them dampers, coz its not cheap to replace them like i found out , but i think your goin the right way for ideas for mods ive got a remap, decat and and full exhaust system and it made a massive difference, but throttle bodies are the way forward for me

I've seen the ad above on autotrader. It could be what I'm after but I didn't realise it had been stolen. If its HPI clear then I might have to take a closer look at it. Its pretty close to Liverpool airport as well.

Oops. I guess I look a bit of a muppet then :S. If thats the case then I'll definitely be making enquiries about this one. I'll be getting a cheque on Tuesday or Weds so I'll make enquiries as soon as I know when the cash will be available. Can't wait.
