groaning clutch

i have a groaning which seams to ocour when i bring the clutch to the biting point with no increase on the revs
i think it might be the release bearing but not100%
anyone else had this and if it requires a new clutch then how much should i be looking to pay as i've heard its an engine out job????

is it on the 1.5? its not an engine out job so no matter what people say its not. Im not to sure what the book time on it is, think its probley around 6 hours
