GT Turbo Transplant

110bhp + which is a basic coversion according to David.

Ill push k-tec to work on the bottom end more, new pistons, intercooling, headwork, exhaust system etc and aim for 150bhp though.

Davids not sure on costs but hes certain it will be cheap (relatively), initially it will be pretty basic, intercooling wont even be included but hes aiming for 1.6 16v. Theyre planning to buy a 1.216v as a project car...we have lots to look forward to believe me!

No question im getting it!

Nice one. Performance upgrade for the 1.2 16v at last. Take it its only going to have low boost.
yeah but low comp pistons will be included

So its a low pressure jobie. Should be very interesting as the 1.2s are 930kg in weight. Me thinks Rob you might have the fastest 1.2. :D

I think Freds planning something bigger and better but he has the advantage of f**k off student loans!

I basically want to equal a 182s power to weight..

-Rob

When I spoke to Torsion Tuning they said it would cost around £1500. That fitting. Does not include a gt turbo that will be needed to carry out the conversion. Plus you also have to think about having a engine rebuild.

Yeah the problem with the R5 is that you cant find low milers anymore. However theres the balance of experience of the engine whereas a 1.2 is a bit of an unknown quantity.

Anyway, it would be nice to see some really modified 1.2s considering theyre such popular cars.

-Rob

Surely with the money you spend turboing a 1.2 (very expensive I should imagine) you could buy a R5 lump, have it fully rebuilt and uprated and have something a lot more tuneable and equally as reliable? Not saying dont do it, just pointing out the options! 1.2 turbo your looking at 110bhp someone said, GTT is 120bhp as standard, mild tweaks will see it hit 150bhp. Only thing with the GTT is you would loose the power steering and dont expect it to start on first turn in the morning like your 1.2, its carb not injection (although you can convert them to injection).

I cannot understand why you would want to sped so much on a 1.2 16V the gearbox isnt the strongest one made so 110hp through it may streach it a bit to far over the long term. 150hp would make the gearbox a complete wreck IMO.

Plus if you looking at a non intercooled setup you looking at about 0.6 bar which is quite a lot. For a 150 with intercooling your looking at about 1.1 bar which is twice the nomal piston pressures very risky I can see head gastgets going then.

But £1500 is an excellent price but with rebuild costs and turbo your looking at £3k in my opinion. You cousl get a 172 for sligty more and that has the car is better built to take the power (plus you get 166hp instead of 110)

For £1500 all in you should be able to get a GTT engine in there with the advantage of more equipment being availiable for modifying it. Plus when you want to sell the car you can swop the engine back over possibly and sell the car on as standard.

Power stearing in the new Clios is electrical (thats why road feeling through the wheel is useless) so you may be able to have it and a GTT engine under the bonnet.

Loads of respect though if you do decide to turbo the engine its good to see something different that 172 but not my cup of tea.

  2004 Clio 1.2 16v

the reason i was asking was i have just found an h plate gtt with 65k miles!!! dunno if they are genuine and the dude only wants 800 for the car!!!

  Mk2 Golf GTI

Hmmmm, i wouldnt even bother with that unless youre going for a full re-build. Anyone selling a GTT with that mileage at that price must have ragged the f**k out of it. If it was in mint condition it would be worth at least a couple of grand

  Skoda Fabia vRS

the GTT conversion will be a much better bet............a lot cheaper, a lot more stuff out for the engine, a lot of knowledge about the engine.......etc etc etc

i bought my donor car for £300 and had the engine totally rebuilt........

if i had a 1.2 16v id go down that route...........its just not gonna be worth it if its low boost with no intercooler.......

oh and if your after a GTT in a newer Clio then it can be done, ring Andy at GDI on 07010 716440

Thought you were always against this sort of malarky.

so has anyone got any ideas of the bunse involved in adding a blower to our little 1.2s?! sounds good!
To much money and effort for little gain. You gcould get a GTT, 172 , or 1.6 to similar levels of power. Good for something unique but hp per £ very poor.

The list of parts is long enough. Pistons, turbo, exhaust manifold, injectors, engine manigment would be difficult. Plus you have to strip the engine down to put it together. Will make loads of publicity though so like the K-Tec 172 turbo kit few will be sold and will barely make a profit but the publicity value is incredible.

reckon id be more likely to go with a gtt transplant after giving it some thought - wont be till after the warranty expires anyway so i better get saving!

  Mk2 Golf GTI

Liam you would be able to afford a 172 turbo by then. And will you really want the car in 3 years time?

  williams 2 turbo

you can keep power steering with a gtt lump, mine goes in on monday and will be the first to have power streering. the idea is to put on power steering pump from a peugeot or similar ie electrical not belt driven and it should work. iill let you know if it works when its done.

no i didnt, got new drums and shoes though......

total bill.............not a bloody clue.......costs kind of ran away with me as i kept pesterin Andy with extra jobs to do on it :)

spirez, my car is a 51 so the warranty runs out in october.

point well made about gettin a 172 instead, but insurance peoples eyes light up even when i try to insure a 1.2 Dynamique these days. Adding some forced induction however is one of them things id probably end up overlooking/forgetting etc when declaring mods! lol
