$h!t MPG....

What could cause rubbish MPG?? Basically it used to go for miles on a £20 tank but now it just seems to go like water!! Could it be because it hasn't been serviced for about 2 years...if so does it need to be done by a garage

Check basic stuff, leads, oil etc. All hepls to maintain a healthy running car.

My mpg goes down loads by only doing short journeys to work and back (7 miles a day). But I try and make up for it on weekends

Cold mornings and short journeys.

I've been light-footed on the way to work (10 mins away) and I'm seeing 24mpg I got the same in my M Roadster.

Even on short journeys/urban driving I can get high 20s mpg.

Normally I can get 400 miles out of a tank in my 1.2 16v Sport using regular unleaded. but thats driving uber carefully and work is 25 miles away on a relatively main road. just ordered an induction kit, how much more fuel i expect to use?

Its a 1.2 authentique (shite) and no i dont drive like a ruppert lol! Perhaps its 'cos im only doing short journeys like 20mins to work and back but i thought the shorter journeys you do the longer the petrol should last? Yeah i think im going to service it...no harm done

Right ive dug this thread out after doing a little bit of an experiment to see what people think...I put a tenna in my car when it was on red and its now on red again and its got me 111.7 miles, this sound good??

mines pissing me off lately..

mpg has been getting worse. (renaultsports)

people on here say they get 40mpg at 75-80mph..

i get about 34 at 75mph

i used to get around 45mpg at 60mph but now get about 39..

next service is in 2k miles.

Yeah i thought mine was quite bad but by looking at the figures it looks good...not really any good at workin out the miles per galon thingy so thought id let some braind box on here do it instead lol

I noticed on mine today 80.0 miles on 6.0 gal, this is since driving to and from Autosport (on Motorway) and to and from work (7 miles ish a day)

mpg is reading 27-28 :S

Yep when the engins cold the ECU puts more fuel in so long journeys th engine gets hot and the ecu doesn't put as much fuel into the engine later on the drive.
Plus stop start traffic ruins fuel economy.

Assuming 90p/liter that about 2.444 gallons which with 117 miles is about 46mpg which is quite good. I used to get 200 miles to £20 a few years ago in my Escort and that was when fuel was a bit cheaper and that did 30mpg (1.4 8V).
I wouldn't worry unless it drops drastically for no reason.

That's dead good

I wish my Cup did that...£10.00 will see off 50 miles in 'spirited' driving mode...
Must'nt grumble though, performance is ACE and she passed her 1st MOT today

111 miles is good for a tenner i used to get 80-90 in my 1.2 16v and 75 in my 2 litre
