Hacksaw the gear nob?

hi the ugliest feature on my pretty dynamique is clearly the gear knob which must be changed!!!

is it really a hack saw job, where do u cut it off, literally just below where the knob ends? if so i dont under stand what the new knob will sit on???

alternatively ive heard u can get silver caps for the standard gear stick which improves it a little bit???
