I'm not saying the guy should pay, thats all part and parcel of doing a trackday. You pay your money you take your risk.

But if I was the Audi driver, I would have been asking if theres anything I could do/help with recovery/saying sorry/offering a bit of my time on a weekend or evening to help repair it.

Its just manners. I'd feel fcuking awful if i'd just written someones pride and joy off!

Indeed. Cars manage to make a lot of people people lose their manners. If you know you have done something wrong then man up and admit it. I've made mistakes when racing and I make it a common courtesy to apologise to the other driver. Sometimes the video footage from my camera makes me think I would try the same manoeuvre again given the same situation, but racing and trackdays are two very different environments and all drivers need to understand that. People will always spin, and its your job to be in control of your vehicle and aware of whats around you so you can avoid them.

its repairable by looking at pics but you would be cheaper getting a shell my mate lost his 172 cup and hit a lamppost head on at 60mphish causing near identical damage. it was fixed at my work and needed all engine mounts as they had snapped a new subframe bumper 2 fogs bonnet a wing a side skirt all grills new power steering tank new alternator and pulleys 2 driveshafts a new gear linkage and many hours on the caroliner jig.. biggest thing with his though was when it was finished and started up the timing had jumped a couple of teeth and needed re rimed and a new belt etc..... huge job costing near £2500 and he sourced many parts himself...... if it had happend to me i would buy a tired 172 and shell whats useable of yours to it, at the end of it you will have a better car and s**t load of spares gutted for you mate hope the a3 driver holds his hands up

in an ideal world this is what i would do but as its a left hand drive and alot of the parts like engine mounts are not standard road car bits so either very expensive or like rocking horse poo poo

We find this the same, infact we are extra careful on a track day and would more than likely drive slower. There is nothing worse than having some knob in a race car keep chasing you around cutting you up etc, etc.

Although I drive a race car on track days I do agree with you, I never drive it as fast as it could probably go I'd be to scared of breaking it, not that has worked lol

As i said before I really feel for you! I was the car behind you when you span and watched you stop on the outside of the track. Quite a surprise when I came round next time! Yellow flag or not he shouldn't have been overtaking mid bend! If you need any help do say!

Seems to be a mass difference of 'fact' of what happened. Another Audi guy has replied and blamed the Clio :S

i suppose there is is always going to be a conflict of opinions but i still fail to see how it was my fault as i was half off the circuit with yellow flags out struggling to restart my engine

  Disco 3 &4 1993 mini
just read through the audi thread and the guy was right the S3 had knowhere to go but that was only because he was in the process of overtaking the cars moving slowly because of the yellows

  182cup & 172 racecar
Of course he would blame the Clio.I'm not sticking up for Lee,it's just fact.Lee span and left just the nose of the car on the outside of the track,we saw the yellow fags and slowed down, simple. Now this is a guy in a time attack car, whom I presume has a race licence,if anybody should know what the flag system means then he should be one of the ones at the top of the list,so I still cannot understand how this even happened apart from.

1 Driving like knob

2 Having complete disregard for anybody else around him.

He wasn't the only Audi driver being a knob that day. There was an A8 being driven like he owned the place.

Numpties, i've joined up & offered a suitable response:

now in all honesty you annoy me sometimes with your posts, i will admit that, however can i salute you for doing this, fair play dave, i massively respect that, it does seem from reading all on here that the audi is at fault, typical reaction on there forum though.

Possibly, people like that make my blood boil, posh Skoda driving f*ckwits.

don't check the thread i have just posted in other marques then...lol

Just to add to what Tony said, when we passed him, he was 90% off the track no where near the racing line. The vision you get at Clearways means you could see Lee's car sitting off the track before you even turn into the right hander, plenty of time to scrub off enough speed to avoid understeering into him. All this even if no flags are being waved, the fact we were under yellows is inexcusable.

The other Audi's on the day were barges and not just slow, but hard to get past given the way they were being driven.

  Mini Cooper S
Obviously I don't have a race car, but surely it was very stupid to overtake round that bend. The grip was practically non-exsistant round the outside!

It would of course be useful for the A3 to offer his opinions, other than the "It's Motorsport, so you've got to expect it" which was offered in the pitlane. Its not, its a track day, go take your blank chequebook to a test day.

I thought this part was very succinct. Top bombing Dave.

I can't belive what I am reading on the audi forum, sums up audi drivers tbh! Totally gutted to hear about this, I wouldn't be impressed if it was me. Hope you get it sorted mate. :)

apparently you have to admit you were moving forward so they can blame you..

Steve (White Golf Ed30 driver) said:
1) the clio driver needs to admit his engine was on, his wheels were turning and he was moving forward.
2)the last marshalls post that was before the incident was un-manned, there may have been yellow flags elsewhere on the circuit, but as myself and the A3 came into clearways shortly after the clio had come off the flags had not come out in time and therefore there was no warning.
3)you maybe able to see clearways from miles away as a spectator, but when your driving at speed you can only concentrate on the corner you are on.

I was 20-30 feet behind the A3, I saw the whole incident.

Steve

As above really.

What a dick... Cant imagine what my reaction would be like if this happened to me in a car with the same amount of effort put into it as yours...

Do time attack cars go around one at time,or is there more on the track at any one time?Genuine question as I know nothing about TA.
