  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
i agree with olliee source is crap next to original cs.

yeh i have garys mod, i dont have a clue what to do with it though, i just nail gas bolltes to a bath and watch it go flying round the levels.

lol, ive made huge cannons that fire stuff for miles, gr8 fun. Also mint cos people make levels for it, and there is a robot wars level, where each player gets a room and has a set time, say ten mins, to make a robot, then drive them down to the arena and have a battle! did this a few times with my mates, really good!

So it's also available in the shops then? Not just an online download like the 'booster packs' for BF2? I hope so - Steam sucks biddy's c***s, imo....

Steam is fine now, it works a treat. They just didn't expect so many people to download it at launch. I'm waiting for it to be playable now. I guess it's not the 1st in Yank land just yet.

I was going to wait 'til after my rebuild before getting this, but timing is bad for my rebuild and I cant wait to play it. My games machine is an old AGP setup with a P4 3.0, 6800Ultra and 2gb RAM. I trust this will still be good enough to run Episode 1 on max everything with HDR at 30fps+? It certainly ran Lost Coast okay.

It's downloading onto my other PC (the games rig) as I type.

Steam is a superb piece of software and a superb service. It works without any hitches at all - it means you always own the game and can always re-download if you lose it - it helps to stamp out game piracy which is good for us all - it means the funds go direct to the devs and not to the greedy publishers. What's not to like about it? it just works. You also get the latest games on the morning of release without even opening your front door.

Is it offline play?

Drunken party + people who know what hacks are made me VAC banned : / Ah well was funny suppose :| Don't really play much online gaming anyways

Just been looking at a 7950GX2. I can get one for c. £400 which is amzing value when you think a single GPU 7900GTX was about the same price a few weeks ago.

Lee, what's your advice on the 7950GX2? I cant think of a better solution to add to a new PCI-X mobo. This card seems to own every other sngle card setup, and my existing setup is feeling its age already anyway.

Maybe they've sorted it out since HL2 was first released, but I don't know because it pissed me off that much. That was back in the days when I was stuck on 512k BB and every fecking time I reloaded my saved game (in single player - like WTF has that got to do with verifying with Steam?) I had to wait until it checked my account credentials.

I hated it - so much so that as soon as I finished HL2, I uninstalled it, put it back on the shelf and forgot all about it. I thought that was the benchmark of turdiness, until EA released EA Downloader for the booster packs for BF2. What an absolute joke that is. Download the two available booster packs (which clearly you've already paid for and now approaching 1GB in combined size) and all is well. Yet you can't offline store your booster packs, so when (presumably) the third and fourth booster packs are made available, you'll be looking at 2GB worth of redownloading the stuff that you've already downloaded once before!

I really hate the way things are going. I know why they are doing it - it's cheaper to push out products online, and like you say, it helps reduce piracy. It's also easier in these days of cheap broadband, but things like EA Downloader are just piss poor. I'd rather pay double the price and have the product in a DVD case on my shelf. To highlight the madness even further, I can do a clean reformat of Windows XP, complete with drivers (without updates though) in 45 minutes dead. Reinstalling BF2 from scratch can take anything up to 3 hours. Again, piss poor planning and implementation from EA. :dead: Shame on them. ;)

Anyways Roy, you've been quiet recently. Not been on the forum much?

I've been playing Half Life 2 again since I finished Episode 1.

I've not tried any 7950 GX2 yet Roy, but from past experience with a Dual GPU 7800GT wasn't anywhere near as good as SLI'd cards.

I've been having no end of grief with the 7900GTX's this week. Because I put two in each machine the chance of one card being a duff one is pretty high. This time both Leadtek cards are going to have to be RMA'd.

The XFX cards have all been spot on, but the BFG ones a little hit and miss.

Steam works well, my only concern is if everyone adopts a similar method of delivery then our machines will be even more clogged up. Personally though I quite like it....now it works properly.

Shame it's no longer one of our products since Valve had all boxed copy sales stopped of HL2 so Steam was the only delivery method. Now they are using EA for the boxed copies of Episode 2. As a publisher we didn't make anything from Half Life 2, but it gave us massive kudos by having it on our books.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread.

Lee, have you played with the 7950GX2 yet? I've just been reading about it on Toms Hardware and they rate it highly. The next time I get a week off work I think I will build a new system around this card :approve: (need to be at home to take delivery of all the bits)

I've just started playing Ep1 and although it looks sublime with everything on max, the HDR is making my 6800Ultra system sweat a bit. I'm going to postpone continuing it until my new system is built. Then a replay of F.E.A.R. will also be on the cards. Whats the latest news on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. FFS?

Still havent finished HL2... must start again i really enjoyed it

You really should invest the time in finishing it. Its a superb final couple of levels. You are in a unique situation Bubbles because when you finish it, you can start straight away on Episode 1. I was gutted when I finished HL2 because I wanted more, so much so that I played it through 3 more times, once on each difficulty setting.

You can see the ending of HL2 and then carry on straight away with Episode 1

Well ive just been playing it for the past 30 mins.. will make sure i finish it :D

wish my pc was a little better, big chuggy hehe

You should probably reduce the settings a bit Bubs. There's nothing worse than poor frame rates. I'd take frame rate over visuals any old day of the week. Although I am willing to spend thousands to have both.
