hand break cable

  monaco 172
Well mine has just snapped after my dad tried putting the brake on like a gorilla.

anyway, it seems that the nearside still works but the offside doesnt, so im guessing that i can just replace the part of the Y which goes off towards the offside? or do i have to buy a complete cable?

is it a hard job? do i need to take off my wheels as my wheel but wrench isnt here at the moment and my only day off is tomorow lol.

You can buy one, side near side or offside, its £25 a side from Renault IIRC.

It is apparently adviseable to do both sides at once.

hmm, not got 50 quid at the moment lol so ill have to do just one side, only got back off holiday today and hes moved my car to get the bike out and broke it lol.

where does the cable split into near side and off side? or is there 2 cables right down the car?

i was always under the impression there were 3 cables in the shape of a Y

lol so its 25 quid for just the cable from the rear beam to 1 caliper. damn renault know how to rip us off lol.

Id ring gsf but have read that they dont fit the 1*2's for some reason

I have the diagram somewhere (Renault gave me it) but im certain it splits under the heatshield above the rear back boxes..

As said its more of a pain in the arse than anything!

Even the cheap motor factor ones are similar price as renualt. I've not changed both at once, but then I have managed 3 months with only one side anyway

Fair enough lol. I'll give em a ring tomorow. Are the 2 sides the same or do I need to order an offside one?

Anyone know about taking the wheel off lol?

They're handed yep. I would say you don't need wheel off if you can get the car high enough, but it will sure be easier to wait till you have a bar and get it off

I replaced one at the weekend still got to do the other side later this week. akward job because the centre box is in the way of the adjuster to loosen off the cables. Also where the cable joins to the caliper the metal section on the cale needs whacked/pushed out the caliper.

any reason behind this? the guy on the phone at renault when i ordered the 1 said it would be ok?

they changed manufactures and the new ones are now slightly longer

therefore 1 new cable + 1 old cable = handbrake nly works on one side "properly"
