Handling vs Grip

  Fiesta ST Stage 3

Can some of you tell me what is the diff and can a car that is not that good handling have good grip ?

Well for me good handling is a lot about what information the car is feeding back to you (either through the steering wheel or the seat) and in turn how much confidence this gives you. Some cars grip really well but without letting you know how far you can push before things get interesting. The Cup (as with my old 106 GTi) seems to be pretty progressive around the limit and it doesnt leave you in much doubt as to how much further you can push.

I see.

So say a Seat ibiza curpa (155 bhp) will have the same amount of grip as a 172 but the handling will not tell you as much .

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

a good handling car will be controllable and you can feel whats its doing. improved handling also increases grip. you can really make a car stick to the road but after a point the ride just gets harsh and if you dont know what your doing it will be hard to judge how much it can be pushed and will catch you out. for normal roads a comprimise must be found or you will have an accident.

Exactly!!! :D

The worst car I ever drove was a MkIV Golf v5...it had immense grip...but I never got round to using it properly as it never made me feel like I could "trust" it (does that make sense?).

The Cup, on the other hand, might suffer from skinny (?) 195 tyres, but what grip there is, is all there for the taking...and after 15k miles, it now feels like I get a running commentary from the car whenever Im pressing on :D.

My escort had excellent handling and I want that back now at almost any cost.

My Clio has excellent grip but I need to know how it is performing though the wheel feedback etc.

Put it this was I could drive my escort safly at 100% I couldnt do that with the Clio.

Anyone any idea how to do this .

Sorry for going of topic.
