hard drives (slave)

Go for the first one.. OEM. you don't need the box :)

That doesn't look a bad price actually

As said above .. i mentioned the crucial site jut to get an idea, not to actually buy from there...
No chance.

Yeah I always buy OEM where i can, saves a few quid.

With OEM you might not get an IDE cable though so unless you have some knocking about, order one of those as well. - if you want to add it to secondary - depends on your setup.

Check what drive bays you have, you may need some brakets to fit it in a 5 1/4 bay.

if you do need a cable, i can probably get hold of one of them for you if you live in bath & just need a single one (not double) as i have a loud lying around at work, might need to wait for me to confirm this tomorrow when i get to work mind you (can't get the hard drive though i'm affraid.. not free anyway)

I would but..
i might have time to pop a cable through your door, (as i work in bath) but not sure about having the time to come round on an evening to do it for you.
(although if you do get stuck... very stuck)
I'm sure you can put the drive in, easy...

It really is a peice of piss mate.

Lets assume your mobo will support over 137Gb without a BIOS update or new card fitted - you can do this at a later date if you need to (will have to format again though)

Take the case off.
Check for physical space to fit the drive.
Set the jumpers on the new HDD to SLAVE (see the picture on the drive)
Decide whether it is going as primary slave or secondary slave (i'm assuming you have your CD or DVD on secondary master)
If primary then take your other HDD out and make sure it is set to MASTER (not cable select)
Put old drive back in
Put new drive in (if in a 5 1/4, attach brakets to drive first)
Connect IDE and power cable
Start PC
Go into windows, it will auto detect your new drive
Go into My computer, right click the drive and choose format as NTFS
Job done!
If it only displays 137Gb of space then go looking for a BIOS update and if not available, grab one of those IDE controllers.

As for the memory... make sure the connectors are open, insert the memory (right way around - will only fit one way, check where the slot is) You may have to push quite firmly, the plastic clips normally snap into place.

^^ Don't think I missed anything there.

you can get PC3200 its just the bandwidth the memory has

you get...
DDR266 (266MHz) - PC2100
DDR333 (333MHz) -PC2700
DDR400 (400MHz) - PC3200

All memory sticks will run at the speed of the SLOWEST stick though so if you had a PC2100, PC2700 and PC3200 stick in a system all 3 would run at PC2100 speeds, 266MHz.

have ordered my 200 gig - can i have this as the slave or do i have to run it as primary?? and use the 80 gig as a secondary drive??

up to you, both drives will work as primary or slave.

Just remember that Windows will ONLY run from Primary. Easiest option is keep your existing drive with windows on where it is and use your other as slave.

Windows will only run from a Primary parititon.. and not a logical one.
It'll run fine from a Secondary HDD.
