Harnesses and standard seat

  Civic Em1, Civic Eg4
Is it possible and legal to have harnesses fitted to the stanard sport seats?
And also not having to take the back seats out to keep them fitted?

You really wouldnt want a harness on a non-bucket seat, mainly because there are no 'holes' to keep the lap straps restrained. Without them they just sit on your lap doing fek all.

Don't bother mate unless you get some bucket seats too :)

iv done it on a road rally car iv had in the past. was ok, but i didnt care what it looked like as it was only for rallyin

this is what i do/did - the harness just goes under the headrest

it's not illegal, but lots of people will tell you that, in the event of an accident, the standard seats aren't designed to deal with the loads and that you run a greater risk of back/spine injury

you have to remove the rear seat base if you're using the rear seatbelt anchorage for the harness, as the harness should be tight and the seat base will interfere

how do u connect the side bits to the original seats? i was going to do this but you can only bolt on to the seatbelt plug side. If you do the other side it'll have to be the bottom of the belt rail which will make it wonky

lap belt can be bolted to the standard belt's mounting points

it's not ideal but is easily do-able, and legal

personally, wouldn't bother in a road car, but it's a good way of adding comfort/stability-in-the-seat for track days, etc

If you run harnesses without a roll cage,

and then roll the car,

your roof will cave in and the harnesses will hold you bolt upright whilst the roof kills you!

I really like how they look and i find are more comfy than the normal type seatbelts but cant afford to have bucket seats and need to be able 2 get access to the back seats :(

they're fairly impractical for the road, really

without buckets, the safety thing's the biggest issue otherwise - the shoulder straps bear down on your shoulders, rather than the slots in a bucket seat - would compress your spine in the event of an accident
