Harnesses on Road Car - Overkill?

Car  Breaking A 172 Replica
I have a 1.2 dynamique and picking up some Corbeau Forza Sports tonight.

Is it worth buying harnesses if I just use it on the road?

Or are they a pain and is it simply overkill?

Thanks

Sam

If you are putting in buckets I would definately use harnesses. I'm going to get some soon myself. The thing is that you can crash just as badly on the raod as you would on a track so I wouldn't say its necessarily overkill. I've seen a few people on here and other forums say they would have been a lot worse off had they not had their harnesses when they stacked their car.

Is it possible to have harnesses without a roll cage but with your back seats in?

(May be a retarded question, sorry if so)

Its overkill. They're pretty, but a pain in the butt on a road car mate.

Count how many supercars have harnesses fitted...

(ive just got them cos they're pretty, and cos i like the lower seating position)

The ones to the side above the parcel shelf, not down under the rear seat.

Leave the standard belts in too.

Good luck getting the harnesses to reach that far mate.

Just fit them in the middle.

Also... the seatbelt clip for the fronts is part of the seat edde, you cant use seatbelts with the buckets.

Don't roll it with harnesses and no cage:)

Harnesses are pointless without a shell to protect you, they're for when you have no airbags and when the weight of pretensioners are giving you cause for concern.

Just get buckets and use a normal seat belt, it's not as if you hit the steering wheel when you brake hard, decent seats will hold you in place.

Leave the standard belts in the front or back? Why?

Thanks

Sam

Both unless you are removing the rear seats.

Standard belts can be put on if you nipping to the shops. Having the option makes life easier.

I have buckets in my 106 with harnesses and all belts left in.

I want to fit the harness though for safety, more than anything else.

The car has no pretensioners or airbags and I just don't trust them to hold me in if it rolls.

Any decient ones should its not much further.

If you're concerned about your car rolling, slow down... Or get a cage, harnesses will hold you in place so your head gets nicely squashed into your neck:)

IMO harnesses are overkill for the road, even if you do one or two track days they are.

If its a track toy or you intend on doing lots of track days its not overkill.

They are a pain for everyday use i must admit. I find if i'm doing a short journey ill just use the lap belts. Naughty i know. I've not got standard belts in there anymore so i'm stuck. LOL.

Best you buckle up homie, with the amount of people crashing into ur car these days.

Wouldn't want you good looks to get mashed up now would we.

:)

luckily nobody has touched it since monday. mind you it hasn't moved since monday morning!

front splitter?:approve:

I got 3-point harness and normal belts for my drivers seat. I removed the ISOfix bar behind the rear seats, and have uses the mounting bolt there for my rear anchorage point. seems to work fine-especially as it's designed to take that type of loading, it's also at a reasonable angle for the rear belt of the harness.

what tosh...not a case of being overkill...if you want them, get them, plus they are safe than standard belts and thats a fact.

Steve i can't use a splitter like that as it'd last about an hour. I'm already taking great chunks out of the front bumper anyway... !

Will actually take a few pics of the car once the much delayed cage goes in grrr.
