If you still got the warranty then get renault to replace it.. why pay if you can get it fixed for free.

Only done 10k so was surprised to notice it slipping. The cars got to go back in to get the alarm seen to again(3rd time!!!!) so ill get them to sort the clutch then. I know the 172 has a few common probs but wasnt expecting the clutch to be one of them

thats low milage... ask them to replace the cable and pedal mechanism as well to be sure.... then check it when you get it back to see if the clutch is fully releasing

Will take your advice when i go to the garage. Dont have a high opinion of the mechanics anyway so will check the clutch when it comes back out. Any ideas on how long it takes to fix a clutch?

it may sound really stupid, but have u made sure that your foot was defo no where near the clutch at these times?

no offence intended, but it happens

changed a few cluthches on 172s.you have to remove the subframe and it all takes about 5-6 hours.while renaults paying get it done for free.

How come the clutch would only slip at high revs surely it would be slipping in all gear the lower ones more so.

You could always try the way VAG diesel oners use for chipped cars of running the car in 5th gear (in a 172 it would have to be done in a lower gear). Then whilst crusing at high revs lower the clutch to the point where it just biting and then and floor the accerater and let the engine rev to the redline. This should burn some of the old clutch mating plates away and may cure the problem.

Dunno why it wouldnt do it in any gear

Put the handbrake on hard and let the clutch out slowly in 1st - if it stalls your clutch is ok, if it slips its shafted...

but get it into renault and have it checked anyway, and if they do say its having a new clutch make sure they do actaully do it, it may just need adjustment or whatever, but if they say they are doing it make sure they do!!! ( my brief experience of renault behind the scenes!!)

maybe more in 4th+5th because the ratio means the vehicle is harder to move so more load on the clutch plate.

Just has a mind of its own!!! Just goes off constantly a few minutes after ive set it. Booked the car in for next week for the clutch and alarm. Clutch is definetly slipping and was more noticeable this morning when it was freezing. Did it from 3rd right up to 5th.
