Hey folks, just a couple of questions really.

I have a 42" HDTV and it came with a DVD recorder. The DVD player has a HDMI output on it so I connected that up to TV.

Im not quite sure what this HDMI is as the picture is fine but the sound is slightly out of sync. Theres a slight delay.

Also my DVD player isn't HD-DVD so why does it have a HDMI output?

Please dont shout at me as im a newbie with this sort of stuff and really dont know

there are some isues with lipsync and hdmi outputs

also hdmi is used as its a single cable to carry video and sound and is capable of carying a digital high def signal. the only other connections capable of highdef are component(analogue and only carry video) and dvi (essentially the same as hdmi but carrys no sound)
your dvd player will upscaling your dvd's to a highdef format most prob 720p or what ever you set it too

i am occasionally having a similar problem with my new tv. the sound from the tv is fine, but when i hook up the surround sound, the picture and sound is sometimes slightly out.. just from sky etc.. any ideas?

Component is still the one I use... none of this HDMI gimmicky rubbish... DVD's (expecially cartoons or CGI) come out amazing!
(At 720p by the way)
McBunny, for sound which is best: Coaxial or Optical?

either either both the same for average user unless you have super human ears and a huge wallet to but high end hifi stuff

i find component a bit soft sometimes

A lot if surround sound kits have the option for time delay on audio. Have a wee skeg at the manual see if that has been adjusted or you could try adjusting it.
