Head Gasket Replacement cost

My mate just rang me to tell me his mk2 clio's head gasket is on the way out, the garage want £900 to repair it however.

This sounds a bit over priced, however having not had anything like this go before on any of my cars, I'm unsure as to what he should be paying.

Can anyone give me a rough idea on what he should be paying please

If its a 172/182 its we do it for £530+vat.
