head unit advise please

Im looking at buying a new head unit for my car. I have the iphone 4 and would like to be able to connect with that, can anyone sugest any ideas to what head unit is good. Also pics would be very helpfull,

I've Always been a fan of the Alpine CDE-111R. Base level alpine unit, costs 100-150 quid. Literally the best sounding unit i've ever owned, Ipod compatible (iphone 4 too) and you can get the lead for like £4 on ebay, and it's available with an orange back light (matching the clio's dials)

Any ideas if that unit comes with the adapter for the remote steering controls and if it has an adapter for the 2nd screen?

No head unit will come with the adaptor for the steering controls.

OP - any Alpine/Pionner unit will do you well. I have the Pioneer 700BT and it works superbly (no longer made).

Alpine stuff is always a winner.

the mid-high end ones also allowe you to connect to the dash-top display as well as the remote controls.

thanks for the contributes peple i have been looking at this head unit ALPINE IDA-X100 what do you uys think of it and has anyone on here got it?
if so could i run a cd changer to it and my iphone4?

the IDAs are good, but a normal CD drive with an aux is as good and doesn't mean you have to wire in a cd-swapper either.

yep, i can see what you mean, it would prevent the hasstle of wiring a cd changer in aswell.

exactly. If you've got an iPod you wont use CD's often anyway.

It;'s just nice to have the option in case, say, you buy a CD from somewhere on the fly and fancy listening to it straight away

Just bought that, From a different site, Absolutely love it, Had a pioneer before without ipod/usb/SD card controll and ive upgraded because of that.

Fed up of having 30 cds in my car at at a time,

I wanted it for ipod, but i doubt im even going to bother with ipod now, The sd card slots in behind the facia, Ive got a 4gb in there now, The same as my ipod... loads and loads of music on there, Easy to scroll through files and listen, changing song track is really fast etc.

USB port is a plus, already had a few mates in the car with there ipods, usbs with new music...

Yeah so in summary after getting the cage to sit in renaults shitty dash with a bit of hot glue im chuffed!

I cant speak for *every* model, but I had a bluetooth, iPhone ready Kenwood head unit in my type-r and it was absolutely terrible.

I had two in the end as I took one back but they both appeared as broken as each other.

Random USB errors, 'ACCESSORY NOT SUPPORTED' errors on the iPhone, random disconnects and all sorts then iOS4 came out and it was even worse. I gave up in the end and just started using MP3 cds.

When I finally get around to sorting out a new system for the 172, kenwood will be right at the back of the list. It sounded good but it was absolutely useless for iPhone and iPod support.

I dont know if anyone has any experience of putting a stereo into a type-r but its probably the biggest pain in the backside in the world, so to say i was dissapointed is a bit of an understatement.
