Headlamp wash and MOT's?????

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

Is it true that headlamp wash is a must with HID lights for an MOT?? mine don't work and was wondering if I need to get them sorted by the time it goes in in April.

Yes HID's must have headlamp washers to pas MOT's thats why you see the cups with non xenons with the headlight washer blanks as they dont need the washers for standard lights...

Its Construction and Use regs that state HID equipped cars must have headlamp washers, its not an mot failure.

If the guy doing the MOT notices the car has not got them on and it is ment to he/they will fail it...

Well the guy would acting inappropriatley and you could appeal as they are not a requirement for an mot in the uk.

As said, they along with headlamp leveling are a legal requirement at the point of manufacture however there is nothing stated in the MOT that they must be present on a car with HID/Xenon lamps. Same as having a cat fitted, requirement at build but there is no physical check for a cat as part of an MOT.

Had xenon's fitted to the ph1, never brought up at mot time.
