Headunit overheating

  don't
mates 172, he has an mp3 player headunit in the car

headunit was pulled out a week ago, rca cables and remote cable plugged into the back

amp isnt working but left rca and remote cables in,

now a week later after 30 minutes of driving the headunit gets really really hot and it struggles to play the cd's

headunits been pulled out and put back in again with rca cables removed, and it still did it?

what could be the reason? cables catching the cage or something at the back of the headunit

i know alpines have fans in the back to try keep them cool, so if thats covered it'll probably overheat.

the only other thing is what speakers is he runing from it?? (if any)
