If i fit a new headunit, the controls by the steering wheel become redundant? or can they fix to the new headunit? im doubting it, but would like to know for sure?

cheers il look into it, i was just wondering if there was a way around it, i havent brought the headunit yet and the headunit in the car is the standard 172 headunit, im sure this has been asked many times. cheers mate.
