Heater fan removal?

Car  2004 1.5 DCi 100
My heater fan has decided to play up. It sometimes comes on for a bit then stops again and makes a knocking sound when it does run. It also speeds up and slows down, like it's struggling. I guess I need to replace the fan unit. How do I get it out? Guess there's an easy way, but I don't want to wreck things fumbling around. Any help appreciated :)

That was an easy fix! :D Turned out to be a bad connection at the plug that goes to the fan motor. I wiggled it with the ignition on and the fan worked fine. I got the blower assembly out, turned out easier than it looks, and cleaned the contacts and put a bit of WD40 on. Working fine on all speeds, now. While I was there I gave the resistor contacts a clean up as well. Here's hoping that's sorted :)
