hey all just got my Clio sport on the 1/09/2012 and it is a epic car could not believe how much quicker it is compared to my old car a (ford focus st170) the Clio does have some issues witch i will post up and ask for your advise if that’s ok and hopefully get the Clio back to all its glory

Glad you're enjoying it. Hopefully you've bought a decent one and it'll just be cheap fixes for the common issues (heatshield rattle (50p max), washer jets (£24 max), corroded exhaust etc)

the car does have a lil rattle in 1st and 2nd when u put your foot down the big problem is surprise surprise the bonnet is stuck down and will not open :-(

So you didn't even look in the engine bay at all before you bought it...?

I'm assuming this was a very cheap/auction purchase?


What year/phase/model are we talking? 172/182/197/200 etc? Bonnet catches were recalled on the mk2 RS Clios and replaced for free under warranty, though this was because they were becoming "stuck" open rather than closed.

Rattles in 1st & 2nd could be anything. First thing to check is that the rear heatshield is securely bolted on and doesn't rattle/move when poked.

its a 51 plate 172 not sure on what phase as i have no idea on how to tell tbh new to the clio lol and no it was not a auction purchase i got it know the bonnet was not opening tbh i thought it may be a easy fix (o how i was wrong)
