Picking up my new car on Saturday - 172 clip cup - and just wanted to say hi! Hopefully wont be around much but may need to ask the experts the odd question;) every now and then.

May as well start with the first while im here lol.

Sorted the insurance out but didnt tell them it was a cup. Do I need to tell them this?

Thanks

Welcome to Cliosport!

You deffo need to tell the insurance about it being a Cup...it wont cost you anything but Id imagine your insurance would be invalidated unless they know...

Thanks for the welcomes. Need to phone the insurance again anyway so will tell them then.

With regards to the reg, I needed to insurance it on my private plate so never told them the original reg;)

hello :D
as above i would tell them as the cup doesnt have abs and has different suspension so this may be something that they take into account when offering you cover and quoting your premium.

Hello and Welcome.

You def need to tell the insurance its a 172 cheap, it will invalidate your insurance if you dont tell them the trim level is different.

Defo tell them its a Cup, mine was a bit more expensive for the "cheap" version, maybe because we saved on the car we just have to pay it out more on insurance!

Doesnt make it cheap then does it? :p

Clearly its better and thats why it costs more to insure

Hi Nikki - welcome to the forum!

Its a good point about the Cup and non-Cup insurance prices. I think most of us will agree, there were significant differences between the 172 and 172 Cup in terms of weight saving, optional extras, speeds and even list prices, thus making a noticable difference in insurance premium.

However, is there really that much difference between the 182 and 182 Cup anymore? I really dont see much point between the two, tbh. I agree, that its still worth telling the insurance company exactly what youve got though - theyll do anything to get out of paying you should anything happen...

welcome, i was quoted less for a cup than a normal 172 for some reason !!

Weird everywhere quoted me more, the range was quite large as normal with insurance quotes.

Im with direct line and if I remember rightly it was about £60 more, so not much in it anyway.

Its down to the insurer, theres more to fix in your car if you did have an accident I guess (possibly why you got quoted more).

Where as Direct Line might just think, yer youre a tool with a car without ABS so were gonna stick you for more cash!!
