help a noobie with their seatbelt PLEASE!

  Renault Clio 1.5dCi 80hp
hello all and sorry for making my first post a question, but I'm a bit stuck and need to get it sorted asap as I've got my MOT on friday and need it sorted or its a definate fail! :(

basically when I left my dog in the car I forgot to unclip her harness from the rear seatbelt, and in the 5 minutes I left her, she chewed through the o/s rear belt :S

now we've been to a breakers and picked up a rear belt from an S plate/mk2, but when we (my bf really, not me :rasp: )had the rear panel off and went to fit it, it appears my 52 plate has pretensioners on the rear belts?!

what we/he needs to know is this - is there anyway that the "new" belt can be put in and used, even though it has no pretensioner, or does it have to be a like for like swap?! the garage wanted £185 to supply and fit, but we picked up this belt for £20 and it should have been a 10 minute job  but there we go thats just our luck...

any help gratefully received! :) :)

yeah it appears to be all one unit, but we wondered if it would be possible to fit this other one just to get through the MOT, and then swap for a pretensioned one afterwards? the chances of getting a pretensioned one delivered in time and then fitted are slim due to our shift patterns :(

will there be any dash light or any other consequence of fitting the nonpretensioned seatbelt for a few days? the mounts look the same according to the OH and its not like anyone goes in the back... :S

Take out your rear seats and claim the car is a track toy.... Therefore needs no rear seatbelts surely? :p

Then refit :quiet:

Or does it require rear belts even if there is no rear seats?

the dash light will come on and will be an advisory to sort so you could do so.or the above could be done, remove all belts and seats in the rear

ummm... dont think i like the idea of taking the seats out! my OH thinks its a good idea, but I don't think he'd put them back when I asked him to though LOL

so basically its a no-no, has to be a like for like replacement? :(

if it has the same bolting position you could put it in but like i say the pretensioner not being there will then make the airbag light come on but it will pass an mot like that so you can get away with it

ummm.. so forgive my ignorance but how do i then get the airbag light off? :S

my OH is a vauxhall man and he said they have to use "Tech2" diagnostic etc to do it on them, is it the same on the clio or can it be reset incar once the pretensioned belt is detected as being back in place? :S

iirc the light should go out as nothing has actually gone off,its just a warning to say that something is wrong,a lot of people have had problems where the front seats have caused the light to come on due to the cables underneath and wiggled em and its gone off

COOL :)

thats what we'll do I think then. thanx everyone :D

knowing my luck though, I may yet end up posting all about how it went horribly wrong LOL :S

Can I ask why you're changing the belt socket if your dog chewed through the belt?

The pretensioner is in the socket, not the belt.

Seriously, take out the rear seats. Will take half an hour and it'll give you time to get it sorted properly.
