Help! Any Super Technical People - VERY strange issue

  Golf GTD Mk7
Sounds like a second hand box might be a good idea mate. As you said, oe diff is nearly as much as atb :S

This is why I'm thinking new box. Rather not go 2nd hand, have it last 5 miles and be back to square one!

I'm keeping the car long term so is it worth the risk of a 2nd hand box?

Other alternative as above is Agency Transmissions rebuild, with diff replaced, will have to see what costs and time scales work out to be.

I had the diff shatter in my 206 GTi and the box got rebuilt, I have to say it came back like brand new. And that was from a place that used 2nd bits to rebuild it. It was literally as tight as a drum, I think you'll probably be fine.

Had this exact problem with the bosses sons Cup. Checked everything. After much head scratching we eventually discovered the nearside wishbone, rear mounting bracket on the subframe had a fatigue crack all the way round. A casual look would have missed it, it was only when I applied a pry bar that you could see it open up. Unfortunately, it was'nt really weldable so we had to fit a second hand subframe.

The Subframe has been off the car (Or at the very least dropped) i believe as the box has been off the car to have the new clutch fitted, but I will mention your experiance just in case :)

Weird i ve got the same issue , mine only started after fitting new tyres so i had them balanced again and again still the same . Tyres have also been off and checked .
Judders like mad when you accelerate over about 50 ish , at about 80 there is a slight judder but the car feels REALLY unstable . Possibly a manufacturing defect on a tyre??

Has this problem been resolved yet?

Not resolved yet, waiting on my new Gearbox to arrive from France to see if a new box solves the issue, hopefully it will.

The box should be here end of this week early next, might even have it back in time for CS Saturday.

Deff not the tyres on mine, the wheels were swapped for another set to see if they were the cause, also balanced as well all checked out ok.

Pretty much everyone is now saying the Diff in the box has s**t it's self.

I have been meaning to update this thread (As I found loads where people were having the same symptoms but never updated with a fix for the issue)

Well we had tried everything to try and sort out the issue and nothing had worked so the only option left was to look at the most costly part.... The Gearbox.

2 options were available:

1. Rebuild my 50k mile box
2. Service Exchange Box from Renault

Option 1 - Would be the cheaper option in relation to a simple rebuild, but this would not include looking at the Diff which is the part I suspected to be faulty from speaking to a couple of contacts I have at Renault UK technical, there was also the risk of the labour to remove the box, cost of rebuild and then cost to refit only to find out the issue was still there and then incur further labour costs to pull the box back out.

Option 2 - Surprisingly the cost of a Service Exchange box from Renault was not as bad as I was expecting, and to me mad much more sense, a freshly refurbished box and Diff direct from Renault with Full Renault parts warranty (Parts and Labour) so this was the option I went for!

GOOD NEWS - The box was fitted and the car test driven, No Wobble / Vibrations its solved the issue so it looks like my contacts were correct and the Diff had Shat itself, apparently the car drove really well (It should do with a New Box and clutch) however....

BAD NEWS - The new box from Renault appears to have a Syncro issue in first gear, the car sounds like you are driving flat out in reverse when your pulling away!

Next Step - So onwards the car is off into a Renault Dealership tomorrow to have the box looked at and probably replaced again if it is indeed the syncro that's gone (And I suspect another 7 - 10 day wait for another new box to arrive), the good news with this is that there is no further cost to me as its all being looked at under parts warranty!

I'm really looking forward to getting the car back, it should be epic, I have had a fair bit of 'other work' done whilst its been off road, it really should drive like a totally new car when i collect it with the New Box, New Clutch and the 'other' bits i have had done :D
