HELP - Car Locked itself

  172 Cup
My car has locked itself this morning.

I always start engine, close the door and start de-icing.

However went to open and the car has locked itself whilst the engine is still running - any ideas to sort this or can I cut the engine at all?

  Low!
I smashed the window then got one for £15 from the scrappers. Couldn't think of any other way. No idea if there is another way to do it, sorry.

Wedge the top of the door a bit, and use a strong coat hanger to push down the electric window.

how did you get on richo?

I'm always paranoid about this happening when de-icing, I either leave the door open or put the window down.

Shouldnt really happen on a 182, mine auto locks only if I set off. Still dosent stop me from putting the window down when I de-ice just to be safe

wudnt put window down cus thats usually frozen aswell. jst always open the boot n leave it over

Good point, I tend to de-ice the windows first before I start the car anyway, its meant to be bad leaving it to idle cold for a while? Much better to get the car moving soon as really, get it upto temp and the oil flowing freely! :)

Didn't Brembo do this at a meet once. Went for a drive, stopped for a pic and locked himself out.

my window is freezing inside lol... iv startd puttin a towel over window :L

Must have a bit of a leak or damp in the car? You can buy those silicon packets (The ones you get with new shoes) put a a few of those in the boot and down the seats, haha its meant to work really well of getting rid of moisture inside the car. :D

Well I sorted it - I went with the wire coat hanger.

I was able to get this through the seal and then push the window switch so the window went down and I could turn the engine off!

I'll certainly be cautious next time I de-ice the car - will go with the boot option.

£135 for a passenger window from auto glass!

Icing up inside will usually be because you have left your carpets and mats wet from your shoes before you get out

  CLIO 172 CUP....
always had this feeling this would happen to me when leave the car warm up in the morning for 5-10min befor i leave to go to work. so the first thing i do once iv pressed the button to unlock the car is just press the boot button so it pops so it still closed but not open then start the car and then sorted..

Same, I might get some of those packets...

were would you get them though?

yesturday morning my inside was frozen solid, scrapped it off and used a jug with hot water to let the steam melt it, took 45min to get to work typical

the standard anti hijack is it locks when you go above 5mph.

unless you have a after market alarm like toad which auto locks it after 10 secs. this will overide the standard one of the clio.

otherwise there's a fault on your car that has triggered it to lock

  Nothing at the mo :(
My car locks itself if you leave it unlocked for a certain amount of time without the key in the ignition

haha good work. Hmmmm think I'll have to stash a wire coat hanger in the bushes as my house keys are on with my car keys

All done thanks mate! :)

On a side not does anyone know why my trip computer keeps resetting itself as this has happened the last few days..

Had this happen to me when I first got the car....looked it up on here and it's normally put down to your battery needing to be changed....changed the battery and all has been fine for nearly 4 years lol. If you have recently changed your battery then I am not sure mate.

A small tray of cat litter should help absorb moisture in the air too if you can't wait for the packs to arrive

£17 inc delivery for 100 packets!!! Not sure you need that many LOL but they will do the trick!!! I usually save mine from shoes bought or any item that includes them :)

also worth remembering that condensation will attach to a dirty screen far easier than a clean one, and once you have cleaned them then a good interior mist repellent won't hurt either ;)

the car locking itself used to be a major hassle for me with my focus so i got into the habit of starting the engine using the spare key and keeping the remote in my pocket so i could get back in which i eventually tracked down to a faulty MFT :D

not sure if this would work with the clio though, i've never tried to start the engine with the spare as i'm a great big girl who has left his clio at his mummy and daddys house and has been using his focus to get to work
