Ok so the bearings in the old one went and now i've got round to changing it, i've got it off and everything but there seems to be a single lonely yellow wire coming out which i don't know how to remove(see pictures)???? it's just there and it's really annoying because i've done the hard work and now it's this stupid bit of wire stopping me

How do I remove to connnect it to the new one?
If i break it what will happen?
What does it do? ( i think it's probably an earth but i have no idea what i'm talking about)
