*help* Clio 16V trouble...again

I think i should open up my own Clio 16v problem page just for me.

Okey, i had an electrical problem not so long ago caused by my Clifford alarm making my car lose power and stall lots (a known problem by Clifford apparently - though the alarm is nearly 2 yrs old now) but since then, after a hard exceleration my revs idle at 1500 RPM and seems to lack power.

The throttle has two valves on it, one opens usually, but when you push that little bit further the second one opens, like a twin choke, and it seems like its only when the second one is open for a leangth of time that the problem occurs, but when the engine is turned off and re-started its fine again...untill the next hard throttle.

If i drive it like a granny its fine, and i get 350+ miles on a tank of fuel, but no fun.

Renault found the original electrical problem at a cost, so i dont really want to take it back to them because im poor. I know the Engine management and Chip are fine as they have been checked, but im not sure about the idle control valve and wouldnt know how to test it or if there is any other reason for it.

Any advise would be great peeps.

Thanks

i can remember we had some valvers where people had wired up stereos and used an earth(which wasnt intended for the stereo) from behind the stereo/centre console.this earth actually went to the inj computer and it caused the revs to stick at 1500rpm after full throttle had been applied(the stereo interfered with this computer earth and caused this rev problem).is you stereo fitted using the original stereo wires only? if thats ok then maybe one of the throttle body butterflies is sticking or a potentiometer fault perhaps.

I was going to say the throttle possition sensor.... there is some date somewhere that says the voltages it need to produce at certain throttle possitions... I set my old 19 up by making small adjustments every time I stopped when it moved on a long journy.... but I would suggest getting an auto electrician out to put his tester on it.... they can measure the voltages etc... should cost no more that £50-60....

just ask him to run a diagnostic on the car as you want to check the throttle pos sensor...

hope this helps

you can check the potentiometer with a multimeter checking you have a smooth resistance change when pressing the throttle pedal and that it doesnt stick.

oid clios are prone for water in the computers as well.you would be able to visually see the corrosion if you removed the computer.

resistance is in ohms.i would have to look up the proper values but you can still check for a smooth decrease/increase in resistance as you gradually press and release the throttle pedal.

cheers. is there any where online i can find the values save you having to dig them out as mine needs checking?

Thanks for the advise...i will have a look at the pot... meter, my sterio is wired with original wires as far as i rememberbut i will have a look behind there again anyway.

If i find the problem i will let you know what it was

we set them up at work using the diagnostic equipment.you read off the potentiometer and when it displays a certain value(as per repair manual)you tighten it up.
