How the f**k do you remove the handbrake cable from the caliper??!
in the haynes manual it says there is a retaining clip of some sort and you should tap it to get it out. I tried taping it and bashing the hell outa it but the bugger wont move.
the only way i can see i going to etthe caliper off is to cut the handbrake cable the get the clip thingy (whatever it is) out once the caliper is off. dont wanna do this but seems like the only way
to get the cable off the caliper is held in 2 places, one on a secured arm to hold the wire and onto the lever arm for teh mechanical leverage of the caliper.....im assuming that its this place it wont come off?
ive got it off thr lever arm that pulls and works the caliper but it wont come out of the arm part you mentioned. it seems to be help in place by a metal grommet of some sort but it wont come out of the arm. The reason im trying to take it off is coz my caliper has seized so wanted to have a look at it.
managed to get the caliper off thee car in the end! i disconnected the cable at the handbrake equaliser and pulled the cable through to get caliper off. the metal nubbin looks like it has been fooked by someone hitting it so thats why i was having trouble getting it off. bloody caliper still dont seem to be working right though even after servicing it!
Im not exactly sure whats bust. Once you remove the rear pads you should be able to lever the piston back in with a little bit of force yeah? but this was stuck big time and wouldnt move at all. it moved back with me having screw it in using a screwdriver on the piston. did a test with the footbrake and couldnt move the wheel at all but when the handbrake is pulled up it dont grip the disc at all. wondering if the handbrake cable has been streched as the Lever the handbrake cable attaches to on the caliper does not move as much as it does on the opposite side???
The handbrake cable seems to creak a lot so wondered if it was streched and thats why it aint working the pads onto the caliper. And another thing, since changing my brakes on sunday i get a shaky brake pedal when braking and was driving yesterday at bout 85-90 and the whole car was shaking! it was sooo bad i slowed down. shaking the dash and everything. Could this be wheel balance/tracking?
No i left kept them the same. if i brake at bout anything over 40 thats when i notice the shaking. Did originally think it was coz i got 17s on it and these are quite wide but this they shouldnt cause this??
It could just be the front wheels that are out of alignment? steering wheel shakes?? spose best thing to do is go get tracking looked at to eliminate this?
yup, check it....but generaly tracking has nthing to do with vibration, it just pulls or pushes your car with no steering input or makes it handle VERY odd.
