Something like a Nvidia 7600GT for £100 will do the job. Then again if you've got money to burn there's a host of other options.

PCI is the hard bit your limited in whats available maybe a 5600fx or a ati 9550 non of which are particularly great. To be honest in those situations i say an upgrade is needed motherboard etc as usually the cards you can get are barely more powerful than what comes with the system so its just wasting money for minimal differences.

Wouldn't touch ATIs. Stick with Nvidia 6800s are still pretty decent and cheap enough.

Two 7900s if you have the money and motherboard. :)

I have an nvidia card in mine the newer ATI cards are better actually. Least they can do AA and HDR at the same time unlike nvidia as well as being just as fast and in some cases faster.

The 6800's are good cards but there AGP / PCI-E i think he needs just PCI as in old style PCI. Hence why i said FX5600(awful card all the fx range sucked) or the ATI Radeon 9000 series think they do the 9550. which is much better in that range.

Really though its new motherboard time.

In previous machines I had Nvidia and ATi. ATi have always impressed me more than Nvidia.

As previously said, I'd upgrade your motherboard. Then consider a budget graphics card from ATi. If you buy them together you should get a good price. Even better still go along to a Computer Fair (the geek in me is comin out now).

Things you'll need to bear in mind if you follow what I've said.

New MB = New case (possibly) + memory modules (possibly) + reinstall OS (shouldn't lose any data).

In all if I was you, build yourself a PC using what ever parts you can from your old PC + newer parts. Shouldn't be too expensive.
